Default HMT geeks, need computer buying help

alright the time has come for HR to buy a new **** box. I know nothing about computers or what any off the specs mean. The computer I have now is about 7 years old but was pimp in its day. I really only ---- around on the interweb, program sat tv, burn cd's, dvd's, watch a little ****, down load digi cam pics, would like to run some solid works or cad or some ---- like that. I dont play games or anything like that. heres what I was looking at

intel extream system:

2 gb pc5400 ddr2-667
integrated intel 3100 graphic
320gb 8mb sata2/300 hard drive
lg 20x dvd-rw drive w/sw
integrated 7.1 audio/gigabit ethernet
foxconn 14" tower case w/p.s.

intel core 2 duo 2.33g 4m e6550 1333mhz 639.00
intel core 2 duo 2.66g 4m e6750 1333mhz 667.00
intel core 2 duo 2.66g 4m e6750 1333mhz 766.00

intel advance system:

1 gb pc5400 ddr2-667
integrated intel 950 graphic
320gb 16mb sata2 hard drive
lg 20x dvd-rw drive w/sw
integrated 5.1 channel audio
integrated gigabit ethernet
foxconn 14" tower case w/p.s.

intel core2 duo 2.2g 2m e4500 800mhz 495.00
intel core2 duo 1.8g 4m e6320 1066mhz 564.00
intel core2 duo 2.13g 4m e6420 1066mhz 593.00
intel core2 duo 2.40g 4m e6600 1066mhz 631.00
intel core2 duo 2.66g 4m e6700 1066mhz 743.00

I can get a video upgrade (dont know what this does)

8600gt amp ddr2 128bit pci-e dvi pci-e 151.00
8600 512m ddr3 128bit pci-e dvi pci-e 249.00
8800 512gt gddr3 d-dvi hdtv hdcp pci-e 342.00

also
upgrade to silent atx12v 480watt power suply 32.00
1gb to 2 gb memory 42.00

or I can get amd athlon ---- but I thought intel would be better.

I'm not the kind of guy to ---- with this later so I would rather just get whatever I need loaded and done now even if it costs alittle more. What the ---- should I buy and why?

don't get an integrated board, you'll regret it. Integrated audio isn't bad, but integrated video runs soooooooo slllooowwww.

Trust me, go for the e6420. Not only is it most likely cheaper than the faster 6550 and 6600, but its the same damn chip just with a 8x multiplier instead of the 7x multiplier. Lets say you changed the 6550/6600 to 300mhz...with their 7x multiplier you'd only be at 2100mhz, while with the e6420 you'd be at 2400mhz. They are good stable chips and overclock well, get the 6420.
