Default Hey I'm new too!

Hey

I'm new around here, been lurking around for a while, and seeing the influx of new members, I thought it would be best if I made myself known.

I'm a young guy still, I don't even own a car worth going HMT style on, so you know it's pretty bad...

I'm just saving up right now, but when I do finally get some cash together, I need to figure out what kind of car to get, before I can even think about turboing it.

I'm a big fan of Honda's, cheap, plentiful, fuel mangement is easy. But at the same time, I love V8's. Just as cheap, just as plentiful, and carb's don't seem overly difficult to turbocharge from what I've learned so far.

I guess I'm really looking for some guidance and opinions, as a first car, with a lot of long distance travelling in mind. I know a Honda, or any 4 banger would be more practical, but I can't escape the lure of domestic muscle.

Interested in hearing what you folks have to say.

civicvtecb16a: Minor Threat song, plus even though I'm copying it, I kinda figured it's better than my car, and the motor in my car as my username.

SinisterCRX: 1990 Nissan Sentra. SOHC, 1.6L, and one fuel injector. Go me...I'm not gonna turbo it because the car is going to rust out in about a year I'd say.

I would go with a Honda. You will save on gas (High Prices)and much more practical for long commutes.

Brett,

Welcome to HMT. I feel your pain with the strife between v8 and i4. It will be cheaper in the long run if you just get a honda now, damn rising cost of fuel. Consider resale value as well, unless you really know how to restore a classic v8, you're not going to get the high dollar for it. Turbocharge a honda and find some dumb kid to buy it off you. Or paint your car banana boat yellow and the haitians in ft. lauderdale will pay any amount you ask for it.

As far as what to work on, I find both cars equally challenging. The design of the v8s are easier, but hondas have obd0-1. It just seems that the bolts are easier to get off of a honda block, but the space you have to work with is limiting. Your call man.

As far as inexpensive vehicles to get, go for:
88-91 Honda Civic/CRX/Hatch
90-93 Honda Accord
90-93 Acura Integra
79-93 Mustang Notchback (5.0)
Chevy Monte Carlo/Malibu/Camero/C-Series Truck. Go for a sbc 350/327/400.

Let me know before you buy, I can tell you what's up with the motor with just the casting number on it. Goodluck.
