Default Help on tranny in 94 Camry.!

Hey all, I posted in a Camry forum, but it's quite dead.
I was wondering if I could get some help on my sisters 94 Toyota Camry. It has 108K miles, and its an auto 2.2 engine.
My mom bought the car from a used dealer about 2 months ago. The tranny fluid was lookin bunk and crappy so I changed the fluid and filter. I put in the correct amount according to the repair manual and checked the fluid level after that. I think a few weeks after I changed it I checked it again and it was still ok.

Well yesterday my sister was driving and it seemed the tranny died. It just revs up. The car does go in reverse though, but any of the forwards do not work.

Well the car is towed back at our house, and here in Michigan we got dumped a TON of snow. So it's cold and buried! Well I peeked at the dipstick and sure enough tranny fluid was very low. I filled it up a quart and tried again, nothing. HHmm.... so i peeked down at the car and looked at the pan gasket... pan gasket is good, no major leaks that I could see. A wee bit seepage around that Hex Plug that goes in the pan, but I know i tightened that down a ton.

Is the tranny toast? Or can it be as simple as adding some more fluid and fixing the leak? I will again check the fluid level when the snow allows me to walk outside again!

Thanks,
Kevin

probably toast, you could try replacing the valve body next if you wanted to, otherwise I would be looking at wrecking yards for a used tranny. Even JDM wholesalers might have those on hand for pretty cheap.

For the future, I was told that if the tranny fluid looks burnt and really nasty and the car still moves fine don't even bother changing it.
The new fliud and the old tranny sometimes don't mix well.
With that said, I don't know anything about an auto, let alone a manual, so I would say to hit up some junkies. Those trannies have to be everywhere considering the amount of camrys I see on the road.

id pull then pan and see if theres any band clutch material if there is just get one from a importer like jeff said. im not sure if your a competent mech but replacing the tranny in those is a fairley big job requires the engine being suspended from chains and bars going across the engine compartment then you have to drop the subframe and drop the tranny make sure you loosen the bolts on the steering rack not just the nuts they wont spin the liitle tabs on them prevent this(personal experiance ) then you must mate the tranny back to the engine while the engine swings around by the chains this part really sucks. well good luck if you have any questions just ask.

there are subframes from what i see.

i've done a auto tranny on a 90 dodge daytona. i've also taken out b and d series trannies. doesn't look that hard on this car.

The drain plug on the pan was SLIGHTLY loose not completely tighted. small amount of fluid slightly seeped out. When i originally added some, it didn't even need a lot.

I changed the front differential fluid as well, because on this car it's a seperate lubricant supply.

If tranny fluid was lost and the tranny went toast, would all gears be fried including reverse? because reverse works fine. Geez this blows. OH well :P
