HELP-- Block Tapping (Rethreading)
Ok,
SO I won the battle with the pulley, and went about the task of putting the y8 head onto my a6 block. The ARP instructions call for 60 pounds of torque, and the honda instructions call for 50. I was to about 52 or so when SNAP. The threads busted out of bolt #1.
So here is the questions.
First: Will the car run "daily driver" with all but 1 head bolt. They were properly torqued in sequence to 50 foot pounds before the threads popped out of #1 using Copper Gasket, and a y8 metal headgasket, and ARP head studs. If I can keep the car running for 2 or 3 months I can save up to be rid of this infernal D series.
Second: I am assuming at this point that the answer is no. So knowing that, can you REthread the BLOCK while the head is attatched?
Third: If not, can you rethread the block while the block is still in the car?
I ------- hate D-series motors.
----.
Thanks for your help, drop me a PM if you want to discuss via phone. I will give ya my number, and talk it out. I appreciate any help.

Re: HELP-- Block Tapping (Rethreading)
You could try this stuff: HTS2000 Just watch the vid. This guy welchou812 sells individual rods for $3 a piece. I've bought a few from him and played with it a little bit. I've never re-threaded a bolt hole but it looks farily easy to do based upon the video.

Somebody has to have some answers...
That HTS stuff looks like it would work ok even with the block still in the car. So that could work. The only issue is the oil/water passages. I dont know how I could torch that area with the block in the car, and full of coolant...

Re: HELP-- Block Tapping (Rethreading)
I would pull the head and the oil pan, then I would take some air, and blow all the water out out of it and clean it up real good. Then you have someone (LIKE JEFF) weld the hole up some, let it cool all the way down and re-tap the hole. And use a shorter bolt. Just throwing some options out there for ya. Hell I dont even know if that will work but ---- give it a shot!!!

Re: HELP-- Block Tapping (Rethreading)
did you clean the block whole before you put the studs in? If you would have used compressed air to clean out the block and used the correct bolts (9 a6 bolts and 1 y8 bolt) it would not have pry happened.

Re: HELP-- Block Tapping (Rethreading)
im a ------- dumbass n00b and put a y8 head on my a6 tonight with everything torqued down correctly (49) and had no problems with the bolts. And i reused the bolts, got a new head gasket and sprayed it with copper spray, and made sure the head bolts were clean and took my time. Some bolts were more jerky than others, but went in well.
