Default Heard of Ed's Racing Heads??? Need Some advice PICS *56K = dirt nap*

So here is the lowdown, my other build head is a 50lb paperweight

Some kid PM's me with this head saying making him an offer. 1 bolt hole is marred and he said it was bought from some high boost guy on HT(dont know who)

Full of ferrea(which is what I want) .5mm oversized intake, 1mm oversize exhaust

Here is the PM's

*******Cliff Notes******
-Need a new head
- This guy has a head
- head has marred cam cap hole by dizzy
- ported by some place in philly
- full of ferrea ----
- OR buy a new virgin head, get it ported by a legit friend for $800(assembled) + Buy new valves

1)
This head was ported by Ed's Racing Heads from Philadelphia for forced induction. The head has a complete Ferrea valvetrain (guides, valves, springs, retainers, lock's and locators). It is .5mm oversize on the intake valves and 1mm on the exhaust.

2)
I bought the head last year, used from a guy in the US called DaveF on Honda-Tech. He had it on a high boost EG hatch. I don't know all the details for sure on his build. You could probably find all the info if you did a search on Honda-Tech.

When he sold it to me, he told me that there were 2 broken bolts in the cam cap attachment where the #5 intake cam cap/distributor attaches to the block.

What I didn't know till today was that the #5 intake cam cap is also scored pretty good. I would still use it if I were building a B series motor. I was going to use it for a B20Vtec supercharged motor, but I decided to stick with my boosted D series built motor.

I removed one of the broken bolts already. The other one is giving me trouble.

I have 24 pictures of the head which are included below. The red valve cover and CF spark plug cover as well as the Vtec solenoid (missing the gasket and the Vtec pressure sensor) are also included. Make me an offer.

3)
There were no cams in the head when I bought it. The hole has a piece of broken bolt in it. I tried to remove it, but could not get it out, and decided to stop before I mangled the head.

If I were keeping the head, I would continue to remove the bolt. If I damaged the bolt hole so that it became unusable for a 6mm bolt (OEM size) I would open it up to an 8mm bolt and re-thread the hole. The bolt position is not torque critical as it is just holding the end of the cam cap on, and providing support for the distributor. The actual torque for the cam is provided by the 8mm bolt a little further along that particular cam cap, and those bolts are fine.

As far as the cam cap damage goes, I was going to smooth it out, and ensure that there were no areas that made the diameter "smaller" than the OEM clearance as these clearances are not as critical as crank and rod bearings clearances.

here is pictures of the head Opinions?

Opinions? PM'd DaveF from HT

I know ed's went out of business. I saw one of his heads they have minimal work done to them basically just clean up on casting and a valve job. In reality they will perform like a type r oem head

Yes, Racing heads by Ed is closed, but Ed is a very good at what he does. I know of 1 car in particular that won the Nhra Sfwd class a few years back that was using his heads. I know ed personally, after he closed up shop he went to work for Headgames in NJ, and Then for Bill(good friend of mine thats local to me) at Xtreme Cylinder Heads(argueably the best import head guy in the world). So i wouldn't doubt his work any. I'd let him port my honda head(actually he has).

oil starvation as in that cap didnt get enough or any oil and was spinning dry. i had a car at my shop once that arrived running but when they went to leave the motor would no turn over sounded like it was locked up. took off the cam caps and viola, that same journal was scored as ----. so i ended up looking at it and realizing they put the oil rails on top of the caps backwards and the oil ports where not getting oil to the journals.

+2 for DAVEF being a coclicker.

TBH:

Looks kinda fucked up, but it also looks as if the intake side has had the port floors worked.... A bit more than a simple deflashing by the looks of the shape. WExhausts have definately been done too (even with the shitty pics I can see that) The cam caps concern me, as does the mangledness in the pics....

Ive not heard of him but that dont mean ----, if Sewell has and reccomends him. IOd take it as gosp[elk and believe he knows what hes doing...

IDK man, Id build my own ---- and if you want a ported head start from scratch so you KNOW what the ---- your getting if I were you...

Although I dont have to much porting done to mine, I started freom the ground up and built it anywyas vs buying someone elses junk to be safe. SO far it has served me well making that decision.

TurboHF has a GSR head here in the area locally he cantr GIVE away... Cal;l me tonight or pm dustin and maaybe i can go pick it up for you... Then you can build your own and KNOW what the ---- youre getting.

Thats my .02
