Default has anyone done front brakes (rotors) on a 96 accord?

Wow... i have never seen such a time consuming brake job before. 96 accord ex, the rotors are pressed on with the bearing assembly in front of them. none of the bolts will budge by hand. i have to get a compressor over to his house. Has anyone done these before? the service manual says i have to dissconnect the ball joints, and tie rod, and pound out the bearing after removing 4 more bolts from the back (hidden by the axle). Is this absolutly necessary, or can i just take the 4 bolts off the front, and axle nut off, and pound the crap out of the rotor? not too concerned about the bearing or anything, as long as its not going to be completely obliterated.

thanks for your help.

ya those accords are kinda time consuming. take the axle and ball joint off so you can get the 4 bolts from the rear out.. then take a slide hammer and attach it to the lugs and go to town. that usly will get it off after a lil bit..

its been about a two years since I last did them,so I'll try to remember. if they are the same from 90-97 which I beleive they are, it is not neccesary to disconect the ball joint, losen axle nut, losen those 4 bolts, add a slide hammer. It should be off. Those brakes are a sob, first set of rotors I ever did was on my accord, great learing experiance :P

just let the machine shop do it. youll end up ------- up the bearings and taking itto the machine shop anyway. i just take the entire knuckle and have them turn the rotors while still on the knuckle nukka

ninja edit

wait, are you trying to remove the rotors for a simple brake pad job?

all you have to do is take the bottom bolt on the brake caliper off, lift up, take out pads, put in new pads and put back bolt, then you're done.

it really isnt that hard to do.

yes, its time consuming and its bitch, but difficulty is very minimal. for a break job or a rotor replacement.

I got a real easy way to do these.Hopefully I can describe it ok without pics. The only problem is that if you do it this way your going to pull the hub and the outside inner bearing race out of the bearing, so you'll have to be carefull not to get any dirt in there or do any damage to the bearing. Remove the caliper and bracket. Make sure the steering wheel is straight. Remove the axle nut. Remove 2 of the bolts that hold the rotor to the hub. Turn the rotor so that one of the bolt holes is at about 12:00 and the other is about 6:00. get 2 D-series head bolts( or any long bolts with the same size thread) and lube the threads really good. What your going to do is put the head bolts in place of the bolts that you removed from the hub and tighten them alternately so they push against the knuckle and force the rotor off. Clean up the hub and knuckle so no dirt can fall in when you reinstall it. Lube up the hub with a little wheel bearing grease. When you slide the hub back in you should be able to feel when its lined up with the inside bearing race. Make sure its lined up or you'll knock the race out of the back of the bearing. Once its lined up You can tap it in with a hammer until you get enough of the axle through to get the nut on, then just use the nut to pull the hub the rest of the way in. With a little practice you can do a pair of rotors in about a 1/2 hour. Hope this helps. Sorry for the lack of ****.
