Hanging at Bonneville, setting land speed records.

Re: Hanging at Bonneville, setting land speed records.
HASport/Hondata Insight K20 started to tighten up, Brian didn't have a spare.
Doug broke Thawley's record but was pedalling it, so his wife could also get into the two club.
Notes from a few days ago.........
8-19
• Doug Macmillan (co-owner of Hondata) ran a qualifying speed of 217.496 yesterday in his G-BGCC RSX (2-liter, blown, gasoline, competition coupe). Return/record run this morning was 225.xxx So that's another Honda door-slammer in the 200mph club.
• His wife Miriam set a record of 180 in a CRX (running against Doug's NA record from last year).
• Doug's going to switch classes (which means removing some streamlining stuff and running the stock nose) to go after my G-BG/ALT record of 203mph. If nothing breaks, he's going to crush it.
• John Romero is there with a 1.5-liter turbo Civic (the AEM Civic) looking for 200mph. He's been well over 190 before, so its doable...
• Brian Gillespie (from Hasport) is there with a K20 powered Insight. Sadly, his motor tightened up on one of his rookie runs and he doesn't have a spare.
"Here's the Hasport K20a powered Insight. Brian was on a 140mph rookie run when the engine got tight. With no spare, he hung out to spectate for a day and then went home. Talking to him on the phone, he said he thought a completely stock K20a would be strong enough to reach the ~160mph he needs to take the G/GT record."
Oh yeah, I get to prep a landspeed tranny soon. The old guy bought a DD CRX from Lee Grimes of Koni, happen to introduce himself to Fowee and his "Brakclen" CRX........

This was bound to happen: I am no longer a Bonneville record holder.
Doug Macmillan (of Hondata) yesterday, beat my G-BGALT record of 203.009 with a two-run average speed of 208.646mph. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Or a better friend.
He set a record on Tuesday of 221.652 in a different class. Bewildered, I asked him if the aero changes for the ALT class had really cost the car 13mph? "No" he said. "I was peddling it." But why, I asked, you should have buried it. "I wanted to leave something in it so Miriam (his wife) could raise the record and get in the two-club."
Miriam got one record on Tuesday, but lost her CRX's bellypan in a qualifying run after that. With pan repaired, she got sideways on the following morning's record run and pulled the shoot to straighten everything out and abort the run.
Last I heard, Miriam's still working on that 2nd record and Doug has moved on to a third.
