Default Guage cluster won't light up

Well this happend after I installed the stock head unit from my '01 GSR into my '95 LS ... but I'm not pulling the HU out again, I just got it in there with a new harness and the wide band is mounted under it .......etc
I do have Defi D guages (boost/oil pres/EGT) that still light up with the headlights, just the cluster doesn't light.

I have checked all my fuses multiple times without finding any blown. I also pulled my guages/cluster/bezel out and rechecked all the connections I made when I installed the guages, but everything checks out .

So I guess what I need is

1. To know exactly which fuse controls the lighting of the cluster... so I can recheck it just to be triple sure.

2. To know which wire running into the back of the cluster is supposed to come on with the headlights.

TIA

I have my EGT guage in the dimmer switch hole. I extended the wires to the dimmer switch and hid it behind the dash. I also used the dimmer switch wires for illumination of the new guages. All guages(stock and Defi) have worked fine since the install (couple months ago) until now. I did check the switch, position made no difference. I aslo tested it at the switch and before and after each connection I made... no dead spots....

WTF?

cluster light and taillight (parking light to be exact)uses the same fuse, see if your parking light works or not.

you probably hooked up the illumination wire of your radio wrong, and its ------- with the dimmer ----. sometimes since the connection is through the radio, it wont be a dead short, so it won't blow a fuse, but it will make the circuit not work.

so unplug the radio harness and see if it works, and if your cluster is bad, I'll sell you a new one cheap.

The radio does its thing just like it should, it dims and the numbers on the preset buttons come on with the lights.

I would be thrilled if thats the problem. As my Defi guages match my stock guages (black face/ white #s & needles) when un-lit , but the defis light up amber(needles & #s) .... is it possible to make my cluster light up amber with a bulb change?

I really need to know which wire running into the back of the cluster is supposed to be the illumination wire... that way I can test it and if it works its the cluster/bulbs and if it doesn't I'll wire it in with the Defi guages.

Thanks for all the replies...
