Grinding/Scraping Noise when Driving/Turning/ Low RPMs WTF IS WRONG WITH THIS CA
EDIT
Soooooooooo
i think I foudn the problem
I was under the car, just spinning the wheels looking for problems
I turned the passenger side wheel to full lock 9forget which way)
started spinning the tire and i kinda hurd a small metal on metal grind noise so I look over as im spinning the wheel
AND THE DRIVERS WHEEL WASNT SPINNING!!!
I musta spun the passenger wheel for 15 seconds in pure awe, I then turned the passenger wheel to the other side full lock and went over to the drivers side, took a look at the axle and what to ya know, I can see a good 1/4" or maybe a bit more of silver between the tranny and the boot, I try and jiggle the axle and it doesnt really move, the wheels then both spun in unicin and I couldnt get it on any spots to spin byitself again
-all bolts are tight
-axle nut is as tight as possible no movement there
Now I dont know what to do. Are axles different between the years? This drivers side axle is an 89-91 as it came out of my last 89 si. This new car that its in is an 88
I have no ------- idea whats wrong
EDIT
Well I just jacked up the car today
------- good bit of grease on the drivers side on the lca/caliper etc around that area,
its coming fomr the outermost part of the boot closest to the tire where the little clamp is. I dont see any tears though
Now could this be causing my problem? No grease = grind? There isnt that much grease but theres a good handful
Now if this is the cause I can either:
1- snip the clamp and fill it back up with grease
2- grab a spare axle with a fucked boot and get it fixed and try that
3- this isnt my problem look elsewhere
I see no other problems other than my oil leak
Hope someone can help
I just got this car running after a year of downtime, in that time I did a motor build up (d16a6 forged) and a turbo install, brakes, suspesion etc
Well I started driving the car and it was mint for a 2 hour haul I took, then I noticed a small SOFT rubbing noise when driving, the noise would change witht he speed, it didnt sound like metal on metal contact so I didnt care figured the tires were rubbing but I knew they werent
Well today I went out and after a couple rippers I went down to low speeds and hear your this LOUD grinding, its only for the first few thousand rpm or so when its the worst.
You can hear it quite well when turning as well, cant tel if its form the turn or just because something wants to make noise.
No power steering, no a/c, car is an 88 crx si
Can someone help me narrow it down please?
Thanks
Kevin

do you guys think its the axles though?
There $250 a set from crappy tire and like he said, you dont even know if youre gonna get a good set
What else would cause a grinding noise? tranny?

does anyone think it could be a bad wheel bearing?
I can also feel a bit of thumping in the shift if I PUSH it forward in the top gears
so if I spin the whells what I supposed to hear?
I know they dont spin noise free, theres a good bit of noise, i thought it was from the new pads/rotors

Heres an idea. Jack up the car and start spining the drive train while you look. From the sound of it you haven't even looked. How do I know? You think changing axles is a major deal so jacking up your car must take you at least 3 hours.

When I jack the car up and spin the drovers side wheel there is a noise for sure, coming from where I cant tell though. Just like a small grinding noise, I did this 2 days ago when i was getting a SOFt slow grinding noise, when i took it out last night it was LOUD and only in the low gears though
Wheel bearing or axles and why?
Axles are cake, maybe 2-3 hours, wheels bearing Ive never done
