Ya, his buddy just came by and asked me what happened last night because he got a call from the bail bondsman this morning. The kids bail is set at 20k. I'm curious what happens after this..
the shitty part is i do have 2 classes with this kid and my room mate is good friends with him. So... awkward. but, ---- it and ---- him. Everyone knows that he messed up and he deserves it.

It's awkward for him, not you. You've done nothing wrong. I advise going ahead and talking to a Dean about the situation in case the dumbass decides to try and talk to you. Forewarned is forearmed.
PS - gen4, that's not e-thuggin, that's a biting comment directed at how the legal system works. I've been through the legal system enough to know that, despite what words come out of my mouth, all the judge hears is that I'm white and I have money for fines.

Yah, know how that goes. My roomate just totalled my accord friday morning up on Skyline near La Honda. Locked up the brakes for nearly 200 feet, hit a small embankment, up, over, and down the side of the hill into a grove of redwoods. This all after I told him to bring my damn car home earlier that night. Not to mention I found out from the police his license was already suspended. He's only called me once since he got out of jail.

I am basing my opinion on Buncombe County (ashEVILle, NC) night court which handles primarily traffic and simple drug possession charges. This is the *perfect* environment to base opinions on legal system bias because at no time does the judge have any information on the defendant, he/she just sits there and glares myopically at all comers. The ADAs are the ones who instruct the courtroom as to the charge - which is typically pleabargained or reduced by another one of the ADAs before the defendant enters the courtroom - and to the defendant's previous legal history as they see fit. So, basically, the judge's bias towards skin color, sex, etc, is readily apparent... as is the DA's office if you are standing fore or aft of someone less than white while they do the plea deals before you enter the courtroom. You simply have to open your eyes to see it.
At this point I have to state that losing my license four times in the last decade makes me a freaking expert on this. It's pretty apparent when the black boy in the hall who has the same speeding ticket as you - say, 75 in a 35, for example - gets his knocked down to a 60 in a 35 and warned that the judge might decide to pursue wreckless driving charges even if the citing officer didn't ... and then the ADA looks up at you, says, "You again? What car were you raising hell in this time, the Triumph or the Honda?" and scratches 44 in a 35 on your citation, initials it, without commentary. Sitting in the courtroom and watching a 19-20 year old spic kid get elected to wreckless driving duty for exactly what you're in court for, and then having your charge processed without commentary four cases later even though the judge knows you on sight paints the picture pretty freaking clear in my mind. I felt really bad about it at one point, before I got jaded and stopped caring, and told a judge that I was getting a lot of tickets and still not slowing down, that I had no excuse, and that I thought she should make an example of me - the judge ate that ---- up, told me the guilt was what I needed, and sent me out with the usual.
Oh, I watch whiteboys who don't have money for fines get jailtime or red hot irons laid to their ***, too. I broke things down real simple for one of the ADAs once, showed him a thick fold of money and said, "pay to play," which is about as cavalier and arrogant an attitude someone can have about public safety when they are facing two DLRs, three FTAs, wreckless driving, 70 in a 55, 108 in a 55, two inspection tickets, and some emissions violation for "a visible plume of tailpipe emissions lasting longer than a period of five seconds," wtfever that stupid ---- is about. The ADA liked it, though, and dropped the inspection and emissions violations, struck the FTAs and one of the DLRs, and I ended up resolving the rest of the matter for a sum total of $174 in fines (which I had already paid), a PJC 12, and the $20 fee they charge at DMV to make another copy of my license. All those charges, less than $200, less than white ----------ers serving jailtime or losing licenses for a third of those concurrent charges much less the entirety of my driving record.
For what it's worth, with my ludicrous driving record which AGAIN wasn't brought up or even asked about even though the whole DAs office knew my exact situation in detail, and the judge and I went back for a good decade worth of legal goodness, I got that PJC on the 108 in a 55 and the second DLR dropped at the same time representing myself. LAWYERS can't get the PJC alone for single digit percentages of their clients even when the client pays top dollar. You see, most people in authority (even minorities) like friendly white people with straight teeth in their mouth more than they like not-white people, or white trash people who render themselves not-white by their manner of comportment like CspecRun.
Personally, I think it's a fucked up situation.
