ghetto vtec engagement question

Default ghetto vtec engagement question

90 crx si, has a d16z6 in it currently, no vtec wired up yet. i made a harness for obd1 but still need to find a good p28, but i was wondering-
i have a ricer tach laying here with a shift light... would it work if i put the tach under the dash, and wired up the shift light to the vtec solenoid? so it would send power to the solenoid instead of the shift light coming on... seems like it would work in theory but has anybody tried this b4? i know its ghetto but whatever works right, lol

at first i read that and i'm like wtf is he talking about, in theory it'd work, but in reality it won't. Remember how our OBD1 vtec ecu's have 2 ignition maps and 2 fuel maps? What are they for again? Low cam fuel, low cam ignition, and umm high cam fuel and high cam ignition. So yes your little ghetto tach mod should engage vtec, the only problem is you won't be able to change you fuel and ignition curves to compensate for the bigger lobe. So either do it the right way or find some other way to ------ rig it. Neat idea though.

oh and this should probably be in the hybrid forum fuckface.
