Heat is a killer. especially when you dont have enough room to get a good fan over the heat soaked area.

have you pressure tested the cooling system? do the cap too
if that passes, do a circulation check of the water in the radiator if all these pass you still could add some sort of cooling additive
what fan are you using

Since you dont care about looks, Take out the little filler piece that goes in between your hood and bumber. Helped my car out. YOu could also try the washer trick by placing some washers in between the hood and hinge thus raising the rear part of the hood.
Of if you're rear crazy, drive at about 55 mph then pop your hood. It'll end up looking like this (ps, you'll also need to replace your winshield)

The fact is that the driver side is getting heat soaked. Remember a radiator is just a heat exchanger. So if something is heating up the radiator. It will actually heat the coolent inside it. Hence the expression "heat soaked". The cap is good the fan sucks and the radiator is good. I just neeed to move the radiator towards the bumper more and get a better fan over the areas that get heat soaked.

My brothers hood flew up on him once. He said it was just like in tommy boy. He was kinda mad because the winsheild almost cost as much as he bought the car for.
