Geek question *UPDATED* with NSFW content!
I want to upgrade my PC's ram after christmas. I have an IBM S50 8183, and it has 2 slots, one filled with 512Mb of DDR333. So is it possible to throw a 1gb stick in there along with the 512, or does each socket need to be of matching capacities? What about brands? So i guess my question is, is it okay to mix and match.

Thanks for the answers to my previous, now i have a new one. I got a new hard drive for my computer since the one i had couldn't hold all my **** and music comfortably (it was a 40gig and now i have an 80 gig).
So i used my windows CD to partition the new drive and install windows on it. Then i used Norton ghost to copy my old drive to the new drive. Now the old drive is your standard IDE bullshit, while my new drive is a SATA interface.
When i start up windows, i have 2 choices of window to chose from, right now, i'm booted up on the new drive, (confirmed by deleting files off the desktop and watching the drive capacity change), however when i unplug the old drive and try to boot up the pc, it say operating system not found.
Any idea wtf that's about? There's obviously an OS on the drive if it enables me to select it, and then modify things on the drive. I tried changing the boot settings in the BIOS and didn't have any luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
**** for your help, god i love charmaine star....

yeah i had to do that to get it to start up initially, so have the IDE hard drive set up as master right now, then i had disconnected the IDE drive, and only had the sata drive connected, went into the bios and made sure SATA was enabled and ----, and i read the top of the drive and it says SATA doesn't require jumpers to select master and slave, so i'm pretty ------ stumped. So right now i'm on HD 2, with HD1 set as primary, but it won't let me boot from HD2 with HD1 unplugged... grr. I need to install a service connector on this ------ thing so i can just watch the light flash like my car does
