I had that problem before but I found out that I was just watching too much **** and everytime I would fill up my tank when I was done I would pull it out and spray it all over the car without realizing it.

could it be the fuel pump? the smell seems to be only inside the car. can't smell the fuel in the engine bay or outside the car... only from being inside the car?

Could be the seams on the gas tanks, I had this problem a long time ago on a EF civic.

Normally when you smell fuel you have a leak. Search deeper, drain the tank and drop her down! Probably the metal lines from the sending unit. That's normally the first thing to go. Done it to all 3 out of the 4(4th was carbed!) of my Hondas now!
