Yeah, so with 10 seconds on Google I found this great site called www.formula1.com which provided some useful information (btw, that was 50% sarcasm, %50 synicism and %50 seriousness )

In the 1950s Formula One cars were managing specific power outputs of around 100 bhp / litre (about what a modern 'performance' road car can manage now). That figure rose steadily until the arrival of the 'turbo age' of 1.5 litre turbo engines, some of which were producing anything up to 750 bhp/litre. Then, once the sport returned to normal aspiration in 1989 that figure fell back, before steadily rising again. The 'power battle' of the last few years has seen outputs creeping back towards the 1000 bhp barrier, some teams producing more that 300 bhp / litre from the current generation of 3 litre engines.

Revving to over 18,000 RPM a modern Formula One engine will consume a phenomenal 650 litres of air every second, with race fuel consumption typically around the 75 l/100 km (4 mpg) mark. Revving at such massive speeds equates to an accelerative force on the pistons of nearly 9000 times gravity. Unsuprisingly, engine failure remains one of the most common causes or retirement in races.

f1 is the best racing right next to wrc
they have soo many new rules this year like you have to keep the same tires the whole race and you have to keep the same motor for 2 races including qualifing unless you have to retire than you can have a new motor there are a bunch more rules but i dont know all of them

Formula 1 is getting suckier every day.
They should string that ****** bernie ecclestone in between these 2 lovechilds of him, the ferrari's and do a little tug o war.

After that michael can ---- bernie's dead broken skull to his liking.

The dutchmans right, NA 2.5l V10s. New this year, the engines have to last 2 race weekends. BAR/Honda last year was testing with 20k rev and 1000bhp when 2 weekend rule was announced. I've heard they now have the 2 weekend 1000bhp, 20k rev reliable enough for 2 weekends but now they are prob going to announce 2l v8 for next year to bring the power down again.

restrictions are lame, but it does help push new developements. Picture how much power these guys would push if they were still allowed turbos... 2.5 l quad turbo v-10s at 20k rpms, , they have almost too much power now, double it and the speed won't be manageable by humans...

they have insane power in such a light car. The ones that were 1.5L and making 1500hp was made with 75 psi boost and running straight toluene and xylene etc... scary. They spin alot of these motor well over 18k like you guys were saying, but i dont think the mean piston speed would be astronomically higher than say, an S2k, because its all in the rod /stroke ratio. If they didnt have such short stroke they wouldnt last 1/10 the time that they already do (or dont)
