Ford I-6 HMT turbo ?

Re:Ford I-6 HMT turbo ?
460= a ---- load more power. if you do the 460 swap, get the axle to go with it. go to the junkyard and spend another 200bucks for the axle, and clean it up, and use it.
it will be worth it. (at least weld the dif.)
we put a 460 in an older ranger(the i-beam special) and it was fast as hell. our problem, no posi. we welded it, and holy ----....
we blew it though. no rev limiter.

Re:Ford I-6 HMT turbo ?
My friend has a 90' coupe with a 460 that is being built to run a non-power adder race in the fun ford weekend.
I figured the stock 300 internals would need "beefing up".
If you can't get enough power outta 6 cylinders ( a 4.9L 6 at that ), then there is a problem.
I work with a guy with 3 SVo mustangs, and I'm very aware of its potenal, just think it would be cooler to have a different set-up.
The engine doesn't have to rev to be a good engine ( look at the buick 3.8L, the power in my friends grand national starts to lose power at 4600rpms ( stock anyway ).
Of course the I-6 wouldn't be worth it without the turbo. I'm thinking two SVO 60/63 turbos ( one per 2.45L ).
I've heard nothing, but " those 300 I-6s are crazy torque monsters", which could be converted to a little more HP with a upgraded cam ( I'm sure i'd have way more torque still ).
This is all just me "thinking". I'm not going out tomorrow to buy a I-6 ford motor. I was worried about the EFI part, but I hate carbs., and a turbo carb would just be too much...

the I-6's are crazy torque monsters!
I wouldnt put one on the strip though! Hell no!
I would consider the turbo SVT. There are parts out there for them, for a 100% build.
I wouldn't run a 460 in a stang though!

Re:Ford I-6 HMT turbo ?
Yea the dude at work is replacing the head gasket on a 63K mile 86' SVO head bought for $800 !!! Perfect paint, perfect interoir.
He also has an 85' SVO, but the turbo motor was replaced by a carb. 5.0 HO.
He also has another one that has a certi. of destrustion.
He is also the original owener off a 69' boss 302 ( I think its a 69' )
And his "baby" is a 427 cobra jet replica that he built.
SO..... I know about the SVOs, just kinda thinking out loud ( kinda ).
He said the SVOs 2.3L came with boss 302 rods. I've read a SVO engine can handle about 400hp from the factory...
Part for the turbo engine are a little harder to find, but I've concidered the SVO before. Truth is, I'd prob. just get a 5.0 and HMT the 5.0 before I tried to bring a SVO back from the dead ( most of them are run into the ground or the owners want "one million dollars" for them ).

Re:Ford I-6 HMT turbo ?
2.3's came in various ford related models. Ford Ranger and mustang came with n/a ---- engines as base model (ranger got a roller cam assembly). The turbo models came from not so popular Merkur's, Thunderbirds, SVO Mustang, and the Merc Cougar.

Re:Ford I-6 HMT turbo ?
Yea, the "---- engines" also had ---- internals that wouldn't last 5minutes in an SVOs engine bay.
Also stuff you'd never think of is different ( for ex. the K-member on the SVOs are different ).
