Well, wouldn't this depend on set-up, tranny, motor, etc? Please explain because I would like to know because I hold 3rd out usually the longest.
The last quoted statement I agree with the most too. That's why I hope to get these traction bars done this week for Saturday.

Well when your in a car thats roughly around 170-200hp range and your reving out third if you take it all the way to redline your kind of if you notice not really getting much more acceleration and it'll just feel like your sitting there. But if you take a leap of faith and just shift into fourth just a tad early then watch the speedometer and you'll see even though your not screaming at redline you build a lot more speed.
third is the first gear that really puts a load on the engine and once your past your max torque rpm your kind of wasting time in the gear you can't shift to early so you bog fourth just sooner then you normally would if you try it and get a feel for it and check your slips you'll see what I meen but like you said every setup is differant and it just takes a lot of passes to get chances to try differant things.
I bet Jeffs car could get a 100mph trap and in the low 14s drag racing isn't just hit the gas and go when the light turns green it takes some time to learn and catch on.
I can't wait until my car is done and I can start going again. even with my stock accord i can still beat the ricer civics though but where's the fun in that?

W0rd. Good explanation. I kind of want to go rev it out and then do what you say too. See I rock the 63/60 (Volvo/T-Bird Comp swap same smaller wheel) on my Y8 and I'd hold it out because it's not a 14B that'll run out of breath. I hear you though and will try that Saturday (hopefully). Thank you.
