thats pretty much what i'm doing too. ran low on funds last fall so i just ended up using a t-5. i'm just going to wait until it pops in the spring then go TKO

All T5's after 86 where world class. 4banger ones are just a strong, just rated lower do to the steeper first gear. Most 4cyl t5's first gear is in the 3.90-4.02 range compaired to the mid-low 3's for the v8 versions. I only broke two of the 4cyl version in the last 4 years and probably 400 passes, and most those just got the death wobble during a 3rd gear pull at the track. My car weighed 2900# with driver and was putting down 420hp and 440ft# to the wheels. I ran on slicks only when at the track and it would 60' in the low 1.5's.
I loved the 4cyl transmissionsince everybody thought they where junk, got 5 of them in the garage, never paid more the $50 for one.
