Default Few pics of my Built Ls/vtec and a night swap that pissed me off (56k unfriendly

Well, I have been doing lots of work on my engine recently, mainly more now because I am moving soon and need to get the car out of the garage, so I was in this frantic hurry to get my engine all done.



Starting off with a Nice set of Eagle rods w/ upgraded ARP bolts on some Endyn Roller wave 84.5mm pistons.



Bored & Honed at a local machine shop that does great work! a little on the spendy side, but they are the only ones in the state that has a deckplate for boring hondas "the right way"



A good shot you can see my eagle godzilla sleeves, Golden Eagle was so freaking fast I couldnt beleive it, Not to mention they had great communication. (more on them later) Also you can see the sleeves are setup for O-ringing.



My Clutch setup



I spent weeks figuring out what clutch I was going to use, I called Tilton/Exedy/CM/ACT and I really wanted to go with a twin disc setup, but I couldnt afford it, and I was still a bit unsure on how well it would work on the street. So I ended up going with a Stage 4 Clutch Specialities setup. I spoke with Ryan, I highly recommend talking to these guys if your interested in a setup, they can talk your damn ear off about clutches, great info!

Basically its a 7lb flywheel, (the insert has been heat treated) The Pressure Plate is a Duel Diaphram, the Clutch is called a "Sprung IRON 4" (no not a 4puk) wayyyyyyy different according to them.



This was my only concern with this clutchkit, the duel diaphram Pressure plate is going to give me a huge *** calf muscle in 1 week Torque capitcy held is around 425ft lbs of tq. Ryan was saying that he has had alot of people with cable trannys complain about stretched clutch cables with this pressure plate, so I'm hoping for the best!



The wicked disc.. I'm very excited to try this thing on the street, I've never seen a clutch disc with this kind of material. It almost looks like the same material is brake pads! ACT/CM dont have any kinds of disc like this that supports a sprung hub, so that is was the big seller for me.

So anyways.. I'm getting all my parts together, I ended up breaking a ring on install on my pistons so I overnighted a new ring set. Funny Larry @ endyn was saying that he almost sells 5 sets of rings for every 1 sets of pistons (4), (made me feel a bit better) Just glad I caught it. Bearings was also another thing I tried to overnight, but came in late.

So meantime My buddy asks me to help him with this engine (R&R) swap on an 91 LS Integra, said I could have the old engine for free if I take it out. I head over, and I guess the thing overheated or blew a head gasket, I didnt really ask. So I yank the engine, and was really bored that day so I tore the engine all the way down, and found it was just a blown headgasket, I'm like SCORE!!! the thing just looks like a complete piece of ---- too, (wish I would have taking pics) every damn seal was leaking. Head was full of carbon. Then I'm thinking god I could do a quick rebuild on this thing and just sell it to make some cash. So I spent a entire night cleaning the living ---- out of this thing, honed the cylinders, pressure washed every part, slightly ported the head and lapped in all the valves. The next day I ordered a rebuild kit for it, (hookup homie g price was 150) I said why the ---- not, so I spent another day putting this thing back together... and I came out with this



Bling bling You should of seen my buddys face the next day when he came in to work, hahaha. Hes like where did you get that thing!? I had a extra header I was planning on using on the LS/vtec (for break in period) that I slapped on. I kept thinking to myself god, I wonder how this thing even runs? I'd feel bad selling it to someone if it smokes? or runs like ----!? I figured I better put it in my car to make sure it runs ok.. what the hell, LOL

I towed my car into work the next day (thanks travis) Still hadnt taken out the blown b20, its just been sitting in there collection dust. Now, I'm thinking to myself.. Ok the tranny is already in dont have to ---- with that, this will be a simple R&R like in any car or will it?, well I've never done a simple R&R of just B-series engine in a 4g. its always engine/tranny out at once, never just the engine. I've done lots of stock swaps D16's B18's in civics/integras and leaving the tranny in no problem. But dear god! this was quite the challenge!



I had my full arsonal of prybars out for this event, That piece of ------- ---- engine would not come out, I tried and tried. bent everything, took everything off! and for christs sake its a ------- short block!! I ended up having to take the tranny loose. Well, then I was like.. ok so how smooth is this new engine going to go in?! I said ---- it trannys coming out, ok this is where it got really ugly. Imagne a tranny still installed in a car with no engine and axles still installed, and your pissed off.... long story short I ------- dropped the tranny on the floor (fell off my support) and yanked the axles right off the boots, OMG I dont think I've ever been so pissed.. I mean I get pissed once in awhile working on cars, but seriously never like this. Some damage was done to the shop (pics not shown due to possible evidence, lol)



I set everything up on a pallet laying on my boss's creeper haha. Did it the way I'm use to... the ------- easy way.



Ripped everything off the front



Set the car right down on the assembly...



and Waaaalah.. Simple as freaking cake like that.

I ended up firing it over last night, and it started on the 1st try.. Smooth idle on the highly overkill b20 fuel map thats on my zdyne but reguardless it runs.. and its for sale! make me an offer because its going on ebay very soon!

3 lessons learned

1. B-series engine R&R has to come out with tranny
2. Stay atleast 50 feet away from jeff when he is mad with prybars.
3. A B18a feels just like a ZC with a cam.


So whens the built engine going in?? very soon... and I have a nice suprise setup going on that one

wow...great find on that motor. you should've took some before & after pics cause that motor looks mint!

Very nice i was wondering if you were going to get that thing in and running. I dont think i have ever seen you that pissed.

if it makes you feel any better, i was doing a tranny swap on my d16, removing the tranny with engine still in car, should've been a very easy swap. well, it took me almost 3 hours to get the god damn input shaft to line up with the clutch, i got so pissed that i punched my fender and dented the ---- out of it

about two minutes later, i was still really ------- pissed, i pick the tranny up, and just ------- hercules that piece of ---- and it pops right in.

hey that kinda looks fimilar haha i need a OBD1 intake manifold like that....


3. A B18a feels just like a ZC with a cam.
