CHP's here in Cali, have told me everytime when they've pulled me over that aftermarket exhausts are illegal(note: i've argued everytime). The reason being is not because of sound, but because you're modifying them period...I don't know if they are bullshitting or not but u can hardly hear my GReddy SP when I'm driving normal. Maybe it the light reflection off the muffler itself that attracts them. Maybe I should go with an ES muffler, looks stock as hell but performs.

you guys are alll right, that's bs...if it's illegal to have on your car, then it should be illegal for the companies to mass produce and sell them..you're paying $150-$200 for the muffler then $45 everytime you get a ticket?? it's just another way for the cops to ---- us out of our $$$...it's like arresting some1 for having a pack of rolling papers(and it DOES happen) but you can buy them at any convenience store??...like I said BULLSHIT!!!

Well just so you guys know, any modification to your exhaust is illegal and you can be cited for it. there is also many little codes within each law for instance.. an exhaust sound should not exceed 90 decibels or some ---- like that in Ca (if it does even a stock car... then it would be "illegal out of the factory". Most Chp's dont give a ---- about exhuast and chances are you were speeding if you find yourself talking to a chp officer. They have told me that as long as its not extremely loud chp arent trained to mess with u riceboi's exhaust.
Bottom line is if ur out late at night or out street racing... ur fucked, cops can do whatever they ---- they want whenever they want. and youngsters are there #1 target because they assume we wont take action against them.
Btw... ---- the loud *** rustangs and Harleys.. every fat pig i see that sees one of them rip it by just fucken sighs.. like its no big deal or theres nothing wrong... maybe white boys just like the white boy cars (95% of cops are white)

oh and in response to the bs about cops arresting people for having zig zags or for allowing muffler shops to stay open. Its simple man, business generates revenue... revenue goes to the govt in the form of taxes. Just like aftermarket products, we all know they are illegal yet we by them anyways and the govt makes tax $ and more $ ticketing us. If there wasnt that desire to disobey or that individuality inside of us, then wed all be good law abiding citizens and those business' would go out of business or not be there in the first place... but we have to pay for our actions. the govt cant regulate everything otherwise theyd be taking away ur freechoice on a lot of ----
and thats what this U S of ------- A is based on

I guess in WA vehicles over 25 years old don't have to conform to noise rules. I got a 112 dollar ticket for exhaust too loud. I was being a good boy, less than 2000 rpm because I was downtown and saw a cop next to me. He pulled me over, asked my buddy why he wasn't wearing a seat belt and told me my exhaust appeared to be modified and he was going to test it. He got out a sound meter and told me to bring it to 75% of redline. I eased it up to about 4000 and he brought it back at 102.some DB, the limit at rest is 95 apparently. However, this will see court because I don't ever sit and idle my car at 4000 rpm "vehicle not in motion" as the law says. The only legit way to test for sound at rpm is to have the vehicle in motion according to SAE J1169 test procedures as I understand them, and he sure as hell never tested my sound from fifty feet away while my engine was under load. Either way, I'm going all 3" with a magnaflow and bare pipe at the back.

HAHAHAHA, that is a joke. I can't beleive you guys put up with that ----. I ran my car with just headers. HEADERS, dumping the exhaust at the firewall and had no problems. I was embarassed to drive but I never got hassled by anyone other than my dad, lol. I'm telling you, Canada is much better than the states.

By the way, decibels are measured through pressure, no way a hand held unit will work properly on the side of the road.

Aftermarket parts are not illegal if they are sold stamped for road use. Just like some rear lights are stamped and some aren't. If a cop is giving you guys this much trouble take them to court, what can they really say when the government has approved a muffler for road use?

U know what I say, ---- THE COPS!!!! Yeah, thats right and I'll say it again, "FFFUUUUUUUUUUCCCCKKKK TTTHHHHHEEEE COPPPPPPSSS!!!!!!!!!!!"

I say ---- them but still respect them because they will beat you like you stole something for J-walking.

HMT members, do like I do. If you see the pigs on the corner, behind a tree, on the interstate, at the stoplight........lower your idle to about 400-350rpms so when you see them just put it in neutral and coast past them.

If you are at the stoplight; let off the clutch very very slowly to the point that you don't have to give it any gas to move and then shift the car at 1200 rpms.

My car has a strait pipe from the turbo and nothing else and by driving like I just described, the car isn't really loud and you can't hear the turbo either. That way I stay a sleeper.

If your car looks like a hotwheel or is just a clean *** import; then you are fucked everytime. If you drive around a ---- can with rust and is an 87 CRX, then you are ok because no one notices hoopdies. You see them but don't pay anymind to them because you feel sorry for the bastard that has to drive around in it.

Try my driving technique and you'll never get an exhaust ticket again.
