ok, this may or may not help some of you guys depending on if you are willing to try out something new or not. it seems like every other week somebody posts some ---- like "OMFG, i keep getting **** popups, my homepage keeps changing without my permission..." - the list goes on...

first off, it is a known fact that microsoft internet explorer sucks steaming ---- fresh out of a donkeys -------. i have recently started using windows again, mostly for playing video games and other ---- that, while not impossible, is annoying to configure in linux. that said, occasionally while using windows i feel the urge to hop on the internet. do i use internet explorer to do this? ---- no. internet explorer by default enables active x and other annoying bullshit scripting that can allow malicious websites to rape you without the lotion and do stuff like make your homepage www.buymystupiduselessshit.com . if you try and disable these features, you are left with a pretty useless peice of ---- browser that is too strict and allows you to do nothing. i realize that you can configure internet explorer to be a descent browser, but it still is a piece of ----.

so what is my solution to this problem you might ask? two of my favorite web browsers that i use in linux are actually available for free windows downloads.

i really suggest that you guys try these out, unless you just like the rapage/browser------- that goes on with internet exploder. if you really dont like the software you can just uninstall it. if you dont try them out and your ie keeps getting fucked up...thats your bad, i tried to show you the light.

these browsers are MUCH better that internet explorer with the proper (very simple)configuration. using these browsers will eliminate much of the bullshit problems associated with internet explorer(popups,browser-------,spyware...etc) while retaining its full functionality.


my configuration:

mozilla:

click edit----->preferences
----this is where you change your settings and --------

to make your browser have the "look and feel" that you like:
click appearance dropdown---->themes---->get new themes

now for the good ----:

click on navigator-
select your homepage and whatever buttons you want
*this will not change without your permission anymore*

next...
click on privacy and security dropdown-


---->cookies---->check off "limit maximum lifetime of cookies to----> click radio button "current session"


---->popup windows---->check off "block unrequested popup windows" *you can specify later a list of allowed unrequested popup sites that you will let popup*

i personally dont like storing passwords or forms but thats up to you if you wanna mess with that ---- or not

now, click on the advanced drop down
---->scripts and plug ins
uncheck:
move or resize existing windows
raise or lower windows
hide the status bar

you can mess around with the settings to make it fit your needs.


now, for firefox:
click on tools---->options
---pretty much the same ---- to configure, it just looks different---



click privacy ---->cookies--->enable cookies---->for current session only


now click web features--->make sure block popup windows,java and javascript are all checked. now click advanced(next to enable javascript), and uncheck:
move or resize existing windows
raise or lower windows
hide the status bar



for "look and feel" ----...
click themes ---->get new themes
i personally like noia 2.0 full, but whatever suits you. just follow the directions to install the themes.



have fun with your new browser.


btw----
it is still possible for these browsers to get fucked up just like internet explorer, but it is much, much harder. if you still manage to ---- up the browser you should just roll over and die cuz youre obviously a dumbass who shouldn't be using a computer. also, if you MUST use kazaa, please use kazaalite k++. in addition have a good virus scanner(nortons) and adaware or other good spyware removal tool. you have been warned.

hey thats what i use kazaalite K++. i never had a problem with downloading any viruses.

kazaalite=same ---- as kazaa but without spyware, so you will still download virus ridden bullshit. also,i bet if you download kill bill vol2 or other new movies its gonna be some dumb ---- like animal **** cuz of all the misnamed ----...

agreed. slowly but surely i will introduce hmt to the wonderful world of open source

i personally like fedora linux for n00bz or anyone for that matter. at this point i have tried most all of the major linux's...theyre pretty much the same just different- if that makes any sense. my second favorite is knoppix. its a live linux cd based on debian. i liked it so much that i installed in on my hard drive for a while. knoppix std(security tools distro-live cd) is also a personal favorite - it has alot of cool ---- for us networking guys.
btw-live cd means that the entire o/s is stored on the cd, and uses your ram as a "virtual disk". therefore, i would not recommend trying these with less than 256mb ram.
right now i am using freebsd 5.2 (yes... i know it's unix, not linux) i would recommend giving it a try after you have become familiar with linux. configuring freebsd can be a bitch if you dont know what you are doing, so i would not recommend it to a n00b.

i recommend you download as many distros as possible, install on a "test machine"(or spare hard drive), play around and mess up ---- on purpose, and find what suits you best.

ok wow this is phat thanks a bunch man but how do i get rid of all the ---- on the other browerser or can i just delete it completly because i feel like it ***** up my computer...i have spy bot search and destroy and adware and spy blocker for pop-ups which does a hell of a job but the cleaner programs or whatever don't seem to work

you can do whatever you want on that "other browser." lol... i like that. internet explorer="other browser"...LMAO. i hope you dont mind but im going to start using that along with internet exploder...

just be careful about the ---- you delete, or you could ---- up your windows install. if you dont know exactly what you are doing, dont delete ----. if you do know, feel free to delete whatever the hell you want. once again you have been warned.

anyways, like i said, do whatever you want with the other browser. i personally do absolutely nothing with it because it is a peice of ----. when you did the install of mozilla or firefox it should have automatically imported your favorites. if not, dont trip... its easy.

this will be the last time you ever need to use the other browser. open it up, click file----> import and export---->next--->export favorites--->(pick what you wanna export)---->export to a file or address(click browse and select where you wanna save bookmark.htm or whatever the hell you wanna call it to)---->next---->finish


now open up mozilla or firefox. open up bookmarks--->manage bookmarks---->file---import---->select what you want


also, if you need flashplayer,quicktime or whatever other plugins, please refer to the "plug-in FAQ's" that should be one of the default bookmarks. although not fully automatic like the other browser,it is really easy to install plugins(and might i add safer). usually you just download the exe from macromedia/quicktime/whatever and install.

yea i got the plug in for this site....this browser is sick really helps...so all of you who think this is bullshit try it out...only thing is on Yahoo.com a lot of pictures don't show up... any ideas..they didn't show up on my "other browser" either since this whole virus thing started a couple weeks ago

im not sure if this what you are talking about, but with this browser alot of banners and ads that websites have on them will not work. for example, the homemadeturbo banner on the top left does not work. do i care? no. i personally dont give a flying ---- about ads and banners. as far as non ad or banner pics, i have never had a problem veiwing them. most likely the pic does not exist or is not working(like pictures posted here when newbieforces goes down), but that would also happen with the other browser. if you want to check what the pic is, just right click and then click "view image." if it does not work then, then it does not work.

ok.. well I dont know wtf is wrong w/ you guys but I use windows 98SE at work and browse the net and never get pop-ups for viruses. at home I use XP Pro and dont get anything. Moral of the story is to KNOW what you are downloading and openning.
