Minimum wage is a joke. it is literally impossiable to live off of Minimum wage. I am currently looking for another job being as the season is slow right now in working for my dad's company. But there is no way in hell I would go from making at least $20 a hour to 7.26 that is jus rediculous. I do not know how much I actually make hourly becaues I get paid on commision. But on average it is above 20/hr. If only we could keep busy all through the winter things would be great.

where i live the cost of living is way to high. so they decided to raise the minimum wage to 8.50. i thought that was fine but now they are going to make the cost of living is going to increase because the minimum wage is going to 9.50 in january and then in two years to 10.50. they need to realise that doing this just increase the cost of living and forces small buisnesses to close because lack of funds

damn.. so true, been working hard making 3k/mo (2k after tax?) but i might have to ----- myself so i can get beer money. I seem to always have zero in my account.

bleh, there are plenty of jobs out there that pay more than the minimum but most people have already disqualified themselves (drugs) or does not have the "proper education" (dropout=no diploma). In any case, at least the minimum job workers are-- working.

if you really want to talk about below minimum wage, well never mind.. i dont think it applies to military personnel.

I have to say that its not as easy as 1 2 3 with changing the minimum wage. Many of us are lucky enough to have had parents help during our teen years and that allows for someone to be able to live off of a lot less. Those people, if they choose to, have a decent foundation for getting through college or finding a better job which would pay more to begin with. However they do have to desire it, and if someone is not happy with their life, they will work harder to achieve the lifestyle that is comfortable for them. The tough part is helping the people that are dealt shitty cards from birth till whenever. Rawr and Josh both made some very good points, As rawr said, we all know you can never break down monthly expenses to an exact #, there is always stuff that comes up. However at the same time, even at minimum wage, if you sacrifice your shitty cards for 1 year and work hard, walk there, bike there, whatever you have to do, chances are you can save up enough to start a small business of your own if you are good at anything. If your not comfortable with this step, at least with the extra $ you made, you can take some extra time off your current job and look for something better in the same field such as management etc, you now have the experience and proof that your a hard working committed employee. As always it comes down to the individuals sacrifices, and willingness to strive for more. So in the End, id say Minimum wage is ok where it is because it can be lived off of and gives most people the desire to want to improvement and take the next step which can acheived with a little effort.

we live very comfortably, there is no way even with a room mate someone makin 5.15 could possibly live

rentals here go from 450-1100 depends on where you want to live and the closer in town the more it gets!
