cool idea, i might try that sometime.

i wonder if it will burn out the start holding it open all the time?

i assume it will

There are a few tricks to keeping the motor cool. Using a Honda starter motor like this is no new idea, electric barstool racing have been doing it for years. I've drilled holes in the case on both sides of the armature, and will soon add a fan to the back of it to pull air over it. You'd be surprised how well they can take it. The battery runs down before it can even get hot.

Yeah I know its nothing compared to your car that gets 60+ mpg. We all know there is nothing in the world better than LSx, and there never will be. ESPECIALLY not a nearly 100% efficient engine that hasn't had hardly as much R&D put into it as gas combustion.

You're preaching to the choir

Ford, Chevy and Dodge starters only have 2 armature bearings, and the outside one is on the wrong side of the output shaft, making it next to impossible to putting a sproket & chain on them.

This little stater has plenty of power. Has more tourq then any 5hp go-kart I have ever ridden. This will make the front tires leave the ground on take-off. But tops out at about 12-15mph, a 2 speed tranny would be ****... or 24v.

you are a moron.

electric motors have been around forever, and some are very big.

the electricity to power that car has to be generated somewhere, most likely by burning coal. so big deal you still gotta destroy the earth

wise up

I know they've been around forever, possibly longer than gas combustion, but they've mostly been used for applications other than propelling a car.

I still would place money on electricity being overall more efficient than power, regardless of how it's generated. Around these parts hurre our power is nuke generated, TVA has a few hydro plants, and of course the coal burning ones. One near rome georgia has acres full of trailers of wood around it that it burns

Even if it isn't efficient, there are more options for making electricity than there are for powering a fossil fuel based car. And, you can get more mileage for the cost of the power. Here it's $0.07/kWh.

If you want I can post some links for you. I've "wised up."

Gas has it's benefits, like easier to make power at a cheaper initial cost, and more upgrades you can do. However electricity is more efficient (looking at a cost standpoint), all torque almost all the time, quiet, etc

Bottom line is gas won't be around forever, so eventually you're going to have to drive something else.

hard to say, I'm using a regular car battery now. So I dont run it till it's dead. If I did it will kill the battery very quickly. But with a regular deep cycle people claim you can get a little over an hour on it with the same motor.
