Well I'm looking 50 years from now and if the US keeps on this "we must have cleaner air" path, I see more nuclear, solar, and wind power in the future. Also nuclear power has proven to be more environmentally friendly as time continues. It really isn't the liberals that are against it. Look at countries like France who use nuclear power as it's primary source. It's very clean and efficient. The biggest issue in the last 6 years has been the fact that there are "safety issues" with nuclear power plants. Recently reports have come out that nuclear power plants are safer than most government buildings, but still people are uneasy about nuclear power and terrorism.

The actual pollution stance is circumstantial. If we moved to electric cars and continued to use coal, we'd gain nothing from a clean air aspect. But if I had an electric car, I'd be very very very willing to install solar panels. Right now though, to install solar panels, the pay off is 15 years from now and the panels expected life is 20. It's a hard sell.

I don't say stop making ICEs or hybrids. I'd just like an electric car. I don't drive far. I can control where and how I get my electricity. They have the potential to be fast. Also they minimize air direct air pollution. The current hybrids blow dick because you can't plug them in. What's the point of a car that runs on electricity if I can't recharge the battery while I sleep?

agreed, electric cars have too many limitations, sure you can drive 300 miles when its sunny and 75 outside and then drive home and let your solar panels charge it up while you sleep ( oh wait they need sunlight right) for 5-8 hours, but what about when its 17 degrees outside and snowing and you have to run the heater + defrost+ wipers on your 30 mile trek to the office, and the sun doesn't come out for days at a time.

See the movie "Who Killed the Electric Car" in your special interests section of the vid store. You'll look at the whole thing from a new perspective. Energy is just another form of currency. People need more energy to have more freedom. Once they attain freedom they become more difficult to control. If we truly cared about becoming independent of foreign oil we'd be there. Look at Europe. They've got these windmill farms making megawatts of power. Strategic implementation of solar would help too.

Not quite. Electric cars are in many cases faster than internal combustion and have tons of torque. There's less moving parts. Less maintenance. It's cleaner to work on. The only thing would be implementing new breakthrough battery technologies to increase range and reduce charge time. Yea for a while distance limitations wouldn't make it a good choice for everybody but a simple commuter would take the ease off of some people's $250+ monthly gas bill.

When solar doesn't work well for you, you buy your power. It's called a grid tied system. It's not that big of a deal for most of the US. If it doesn't work in your geographic location, then don't buy it. I get about 12-36" of snow a year and generally melts a few days after it snows. Solar would work for me. Not to mention most of my power I use is from a nuclear power plant.

I wasn't really knocking solar power ( i own stock in a company that makes solar panels, lol) I just meant that the electric car has some pretty severe limitations for people that live outside of a big city, and i really don't see them catching on in the united states any more than diesel cars. I agree that nuclear energy is the best solution but since you have the tree huggers and other morons that run and hide at the mention of "terror" and "nuclear" in the same sentence, that tends to hinder progress, even though reactors are ------- pretty much impenetrable (spell?)

actually check this out, heres something i would buy if i had 40k maybe after i get done with school

it gets 250miles to a carge and 100mph top speed, when you do the math it gets like 130 mpg if gas was $3/gallon, ---- i can live with that and i know there will be people modding it out

A massed produced electric car is a great theory and always will bea THEORY. The car aforementioned looks like a lotus with gsr blades... not very original.
