Do you know what kind of drive it is? I have a Sony DVD-RW that's a couple years old and it can't read or write CD-R's and will only burn DVD's at the slowest speed. Sony drives are known for having shitty laser that burn out.

burners die sometimes

you might just need a new one

I've had 3 optical drives fail but never had a harddrive go out

can someone tell me if this external drive is compatable with my comp? im def not computer savvy, i just figured out utorent a little while ago. If it will work for my comp, ill buy it. But if my drive is bad, will it still read regular cd/dvd's? If it won't, will this drive do that for me?

it uses usb so yes it should work.

you can replace the drives (it's a computer, just smaller), and can probably find them cheap on egay
