i heard putting rocks and/or metal peices into the combustion chamber will increase compression. if only temporary

They are not as retarded as you think.

Over time you build up a lot of carbon on the pistons. This accually will RAISE the compression of your motor, and potentially cause knock/detonation.

Water is a really old school way of cleaning the engine out, and doesn't work that great. But it DOES work to clean off your pistons and break the carbon up on them.

Nowadays there are products like mopar combustion chamber cleaner (MCCC) http://www.vfaq.com/mods/MCCC.html (this guide is for DSM's but can be used on any car) It works great. I've do it around every 10,000 miles on my cars. Keeps the pistons shiny clean and free of buildup.

A lot of old school carbureted engine guys still do the water cleaning, but not so much anyone in the FI world that I am aware of.

Actually, yes they are.

Basically spray either past and let the intake suck it in or spray into the throttle body and it swells the pistons or rings or sleeves or something. I don't know what these nignogs are talking about. They swear by it though.
You're talking about something completely different.....unless he just understood them wrong?

I'm guessing he mis-understood them. I've been over this topic before a few times. It seems to be pretty common that people think compression goes up, when they clean the engine out. Not sure why so many people think this.

Haha, I remember reading an article in a magazine a long time ago. They took a bone stock 92-95 Civic to the track and strapped it to a dyno. The thing had like a million miles on it and produced more horsepower then it came with stock. They came to the conclusion that it had higher compression due to the massive carbon buildup in the combustion chamber.
