Diesel racer!?

Diesel racer!?
Is there any problem, adapting an external wastegate on a turbodiesel engine?
I know temperature is not a problem, dieselīs have lower egtīs... but diesel engines produce alot of particles, would that be a problem for the valve itself?
Also alot of air goes trough them, would a 36mm wastegate be enough for a 2.0 liter diesel pumping 1,5 bar boost on a hybrid turbo?
I know you guys are masters, youīve helped alot a few years ago, so be kind to the newb...

Re: Diesel racer!?
a smaller wastegate would probably be just fine, as your probably getting a little inefficient at 1.5b-bar, the stock internal gate on my HY-35 wasnt all that big, and the actuator was supposed to open at something like 23psi IIRC.
36-38mm would be fine. but i agree, you dont need a wastegate

Re: Diesel racer!?
So what would exactly limit the boost? RPMīs? Exhaust/intake restricitons restriction?
That would be insane, itīs not intercooled(yet), wouldnīt the turbo be spining much faster? Heating up the air and oil?
Your Vw tdi doesnīt have a wastegate? youīre kidding right? In europe all tdiīs have internal wastegates, or are VNT type... but they all have a electronic controlled type of mecanical actuator... either vacum or pressure actuated...

Re: Diesel racer!?
Does it really matter if the intake air is hotter? Your not trying to prevent detonation with a diesel, detonation is what makes diesels work.
You want to watch your EGTs with a diesel. The richer you run it, the hotter they get.

If your theory applyīs why almost every modern diesel is intercooled, and if you simply apply one to a non intercooled you get huge bhp gains?
There are 2 versions of the engine in my car, a non intercooled with 90bhp, and 205nm and a intercooled version with 110bhp and 255nm... The only diference is the intercooler, the engine is exactly the same with diferent ECU map...
