diesel electric hybrid car
Well, i thought about it, wonderd why no one does it seeing as how turbo diesel cars get 50 mpg and hybrid gasoline cars run about 60-70mpg. And as an added plus diesel vehicles can run off of biodiesel wich is not a petroleum distillate. So I went and did what everyone online does, googled that bitch.

it provided a pretty interesting read.
It would be nice to have a vehicle that could get around 130mpg.

Re: diesel electric hybrid car
Hybrid vehicles were not designed with fuel economy in mind remember, the first was way back when fuel prices were decent. They were designed to lower green house emissions
Back then, a diesel electric wouldn't be a good idea because Hybrids were to save the atmosphere when diesel pollutes like a mother.

actualy, during my reading today. Ive found out that diesel electric hybrids were created because locomotive engines put out so much torque they could not design a gear box that could handle the power. so around 1924 they used the diesel engine as a small powerplant for the electric motors that drive the locomotive and power the train from end to end. and with biodiesel and the newer low sulfur diesel, the emmissions end up being less than petrol puts out. The NOx and particles can be delt with. Expecialy since the electric motor can be used in the times that the NOx is at its highest output, during initial take off. plus diesel injection systems have evolved within the past few years. just reading into it, it seems like a good idea.

Re: diesel electric hybrid car
its not a hybrid but the Chevy Kodiac series of trucks are VERY clen and great on gas...for thier size.
one o fthe flat beds that towed a car into my work was a C5500 Duramax HD. 6.6l V8 turbo Diesel, 300hp 500lb.ft, at idle you couldnt even tell it was a diesel(smell or sound) and it gets decent MPG. do a quick search on gogle and you'll see Diesels have been advancing technologically at a very rapid rate.
when the driver took off all you could hear was the turbo and thier was ZERO black smoke

Re: diesel electric hybrid car
the only thing i see about that goofy setup that guy has other than is pretty cool for something he came up with is that i thnk he is leaving that "pusher" trailer in DRIVE all the time when its not running...which is quite bad for that auto trans
