Default Did I Scam This Guy?

i want to tell my story to see if i can sleep at night or if i should do something about this.

i sold an airplane flap to a guy in new zealand. he paid for just the cost of the flap through paypal and said he would setup the shipping. i said ok and took the flap to my shipper. i told him what it was worth and where it was going. i paid my shipper to box the flap and hold on to it till the buyer's company picked it up. fast forward, the flap arrives in new zealand slightly damaged and the buyer is pissed and wants me to cover damages due to "poor packaging". i told him that it was the shipping company's problem, they didnt handle it properly. he said, they wouldnt pay. i then asked him if he insured it. he said no.

in my opinion i dont owe him a damn thing. if he would have insured it, there wouldnt be an issue. he filed a claim with paypal and they took my side and didnt give him a refund. then in awesome form, he calls me up 3 times, drunk, calling me all sorts of names and that scamming is "the american way" and all kinds of ----. anyway, should i do anything or just say screw it and paypal thinks im right.

i think you're in the right here. The guy who bought your "flap" totally fucked himself by not insuring his purchase. I would never ship anything without the insurance - he was just trying to save a buck and now he's blaming you. What a *****.

apparently from his attitude he knows you are right as well. If you still have those voice messages i suggest you record them on your computer if at all there are any future complications

Did he send any proof the flap was damaged? I've been around airplanes before and know that they're delicate, but he could try to be scamming you.

You said you paid the shipper to package the flap... if that is the case, I would go after the shipper if I were him. You had nothing to do with the packaging first hand. Sounds to me like he's after the wrong people, either way, you can sleep soundly.

that sux, but i dont think intentionally scammed the guy. Ask for proof of damage and go from there. Then again if I got something and it was damaged I would be pissed too.

he sent me pics. the damage isnt all that bad. i know i could fix it. my day job is working on airplanes. i dont think he is trying to scam me, he is just trying to get me to pay for his mistake.

again, the dispute with paypal is over and they decided in my favor. i am not being forced to do anything, but i just didnt feel great about it and wondered what other people though. after some time i feel fine with it now

I think you did everything you could for the guy. Paypal is usually fair when dealing with things like that when given all the details. Just move one.
