There are actually a number of prosecutors who won't prosecute the cases they turn in.
Because the people aren't breaking the law. Talking to a 30 year old dood pretending to be a 12 year old boy... isn't breaking a law.

that show is yet anouther reason why people should know their rights under the law, i'm not condoning their actions but basically this is how it works.
they can't charge you until you admit to actually doing something wrong, after the suspect is arrested they take them to a trailer for questioning, this is where the police officer sits down and asks a series of questions designed to trick the suspect into admitting guilt.
goes something like: ok, so tell me why you came here today, we already have the chatroom transcripts so we already know the answer, but we'll go easier on you if you are honest, if you lie to us its just gonna make things harder on yourself.
then the sespect says, yea i was gonna stick it in her butt....and um, i knew it was wrong.....
then bam, you just admitted to attempting a lude act on a minor, but in reality all you have to do is say nothing (under your 5th amendment right preventing self incrimination) and request a lawyer, who will advise you to say nothing, because you don't have to.
basically if you ever watch the behind the scenes, the guys that do this end up paying a lawyer a bunch of money and walk away, all they can take to trial is that someone from your ip address said some naughty things to someone pretending to be a minor, in fact unlike prostitution stings where the under cover cop testifies against you, the person you are accused of attempted (whatever) has never met you before and is not a minor ( the girl is 19 and the producers daughter) so its similar to having an undercover cop on here starting ---- with someone and giving you their address so you can come kick their ***, then charging you with assault when you show up.
anyway this doesn't really do anything to stop people from pursuing minors ( the same people get caught multiple times so its obviously not a very good deterrent) and if i had a daughter theres no way she would be able to have someone over and me not know about it. i think it all goes back to the parents.

IP address is one thing, but if they confirmed a private meeting and followed through, that shows some serious intent and to be honest if it goes to trial there are 12 on the jury that can ultimately decide... Good lawyer or not its riding on the jury. And given the circumstances the jury probably isnt going to be too sympathetic...

you have to request a trial by jury, which is as you just pointed out, not very smart.
point is, if you ever get busted with anything, don't volunteer any information because it can ( and always is) used agaisnt you in a court of law.
i'm more familiar with drug offenses but the same rules usually apply, the arresting officer or person interrogating you has no authority to offer you any kind of deal or promise, especially without your lawyer present, ever see the episode where the prominent doctor got busted? guess what? he walked, know why? because he didn't admit to shiht and they pleaded it down to sexual misconduct or some ---- that is a misdemeanor.

I was watching that show a few weeks ago. It just seems incredibly simple. The guys come in. Sit there and admit to all these things they just said to a supposed 13 yr old. If I was one of those guys I'd be like, "---- this ----" and leave the moment I figured it out.
Anyways, I was watching and the first contestant they have on there is muslem with a turban. I was like, "that seems awfully simple and convenient." The guy is a *** and just sits there admitting to all this crap. He's acting sorta funny though. And his forehead is odd. Where there's the normal wrinkles it's entirely flat. So the next guy comes on. A mexican with a ball cap. He looks really familiar. The eyes are the exact same as the muslem's and not only that but there's a makeup line along his jaw up to his ear. His ears were as pale as mine but you could only get occasional glances because of the angle of the cameras. Case in point, I believe it was blatant propaganda and just totally artificial. Maybe they all aren't but this one definitely was.

I'm going to make my own show, "To catch a synthetic news reporter" where I walk into Dateline's trap with my own camera crew and I'll be the one asking the questions.
I ------- hate "news" shows that create all the news themselves. IE none of this would ------- happen if they wouldn't create it.
