medotclose, the D15 is not worth upgrading the rods in. Crower rods for $700 + $400 for pistsons, you might as well buy a CRX/Civic Si motor and rebuild it.
Tuner Toys rods for $225 and Vitaras for cheap = a reliable motor for boost. If you did install a D15B VTEC crank in your current motor to use Tuner Toys rods, you'd be ---- outta luck trying to find pistons.
Do the MPFI swap and rewiring now, then get a D16A6 to build and do a motor swap. If you can find a Si tranny (PL3-3000 or 6000) and drop in. You can drop the tranny in now or with the built A6 motor.

Honestly it is not worth your time building the D15b2. It would actually be cheaper and more rewarding to swap a different engine, and get an SI tranny. First thing your going to need to do tho is MPFI.

D16z6, - SOHC Vtec, (drops right in, but you going to have to wire to OBD-1 or hack it which can be a pain in the ***) Dohc ZC, (drops right in).

bones, i got the gears wrong, to tell the truth im not even sure what ended up getting used, im pretty sure its vx 1-2 cable zc 4th as 3rd, ex 4-5 and FD.
and sure 137mm rods w/ the right pistons will work in a block w/ a d15b crank, or a z1 crank w/ the right piston/rod combo, but NO d16 rod will work unless the d15b crank is used.
