The D-I-Y Home Improvement thread.
So I've been working on some stuff at my house, and I thought I would post it up. I get alot of idea's from variations of other stuff I've seen, so if any HMT'ers have some stuff they've done, post up.
On the side of my townhouse there is this box on the side of every house. Its used for the fireplace (if you got a house with one). The fireplaces they were offering were those "for show" ones, but not anything that would actually heat the house, so I told them I didn't want it. When you don't get one, they just drywall over the "empty space" that would have been your fireplace.
So I decided that I wanted to tear out the empty space behind the wall and make a TV cabinet. I tore a hole in the wall and then framed in the two shelves. Drywalled the new walls and ceiling. The trim work is still needed around the shelves, but I've been putting it off because I'm not a carpenter. I'll end up doing it, it's just gonna take me longer than if I did that kind of ---- every day. Oh, I also installed the electric, cable, and recessed lights.
Another thing I thought I would do is add a TV shelf upstairs in the loft. The room isn't super huge, and sometimes things just seem too plain, so I found a spot that I wanted to do it above the stairs. I'm still finishing the drywall, but it's almost there. (Cable and Electircity installed too, just has a little drywall mud in the boxes.)
This is about the view where you'll see the TV from the soon to be couch.
If you've got something to post up in the D-I-Y home improvement thread, git r done.

Ownin a house ain't all it's cracked up to be...especially when it's kind of a project home. Me and my fiance just bought one a few months ago, and all the little stuff that we knew had to be done is ---- compared to the big dog stuff that i just found out that had to be done. I say let the house fall down...i got me a 2 car garage with a second floor and an oil pit

Re: The D-I-Y Home Improvement thread.
Stevemode, it isn't absolutely necessary, but I've noticed on a lot of the houses that I was working on (I do construction in the summers) had about 10 one inch holes drilled (just through the sheetrock) behind the tv to vent out the heat if they were using a cabinet like yours for big screen tv's. Like I said, it isn't necessary, but I've been noticing a lot of the electronics installers (no, not electricians, I'm talking about the guys that do surround sound, expensive tv installs, voice command ----) doing it these past few years.
