Sorry to jump in so late, I have been super busy at work today and I didn't have time to check in. Sounds like you got it all figured out though. In the vehicle, there is an illumination wire and a dimmer wire, you have to make sure to use the illum. wire. The dimmer will change voltage as you adjust the dimmer switch. Nice little setup, anyway.

Just so you know. the parking light wire (from a DMM's point of view) looks like ground when the parking lights are off. This does not sound like your problem though, as you say the light on the radio dimmed when you turned the parking lights on. I believe you hit the nail on the head when you assumed it is a voltage problem. I would venture to say that if you turned the volume up enought to make the amps draw some pretty decent current, then it will probably shut off again or do what is called 'motorboating' which is kind of a strange thing all on it's on. Try starting the car up or just hook a battery charger to it while your testing it out. I've been an installer for 10 years and running now.

well I've had the volume up there once. but the sub and its amp aren't installed just the full range speakers on 1 amp 50x4. I start to daily drive it in about a week so I'll know then. I cant really start it now, cuz its got no intake on, and it's in a garage (co2 = BAD)

only hondas that need the dim control wire are 90 -93 accords you dont need it on a crx and the dim control hooks to a white wire with a purple strip on the harness from the car so clip it

incandescent light bulbs do draw a spike of current when they first start up. when the bulb is cold, it's filament has pretty low resistance, so when power is applied (switching the headlights on), a whole bunch of current rushes through it, leaving your stereo with next to nothing. all the power going through such a small wire makes it heat up to the point of glowing white-hot (producing light, obviously)... conductors (the filament) increase in resistance when heated, so less current can flow through the bulb now that it's lit, and your stereo kicks in again.
charge your battery - you'll have more peak current to work with.

Ditto If my lazy *** was actually on here more, i probably coulda told ya that too. I'm also a stereo install tech...so if u ever got any questions, you got two people to ask BTW, how much does your spare tire box weigh? I'm getting rid of my monstrous weight box and downsizing and i want to do the fiberglass box too. Just as long as it doesn't weigh 270 pounds like my current one does
