Crimping 4 ga ring terminals

Crimping 4 ga ring terminals
Does anyone have a really good ghetto way of doing this? I can't seem to find any wire crimpers that crimp 4ga and I've tried visegrips, a vise, pliers, etc and nothing gets a really good hold on the wire. I can always pull it out with moderate force. I'm hoping there is some trick that I'm missing to do this..

Do you have a good set of wire crimps? If not, you can use a vise and some solder to get a nice connection, put the stripped end into the ring terminal and set them into the vise, drip some solder into at as you crush it with the vise. You other option is to buy some nicer terminals. Streetwires makes one that you ------ the copper out and then fold it over then thread on a cap, or theres the kind that uses and allen screw to bite into the wires. They're not horribly expensive. And definitly worth it.

I don't see how a pair of vise-grips wouldn't work. Crush half of the ring terminal at a time. Then crush the other way (rotate 90 degrees) if necessary to get one side under the other, then crush the crap out of the other side. You should end up with a nice tight connection.

when crimping my 2 GA terminals i used a hammer and flathead screwdriver on the little pieces that are supposed to crimp, just bang it on both sides until the go down. then throw some solder on it to make sure it holds.

I have accesss to an industrial crimp tool(very expensive tool). The funny thing is I never used it on my connections. I just stuck the wire in the connector and wrapped it with tape to hold it in. The car isn't mine anymore so I don't care. :P
