Confused on ZC motors...

Confused on ZC motors...
I'm a little confused about the zc engine. I see it some places as a SOHC and others as a DOHC. Is the engine code for both d16zc? What car's did they come out off? Are they any good? VTEC or non-VTEC? I think I MIGHT look into buying a motor and building it, but if there is a D-Series DOHC I think I might want to consider that. I thought that ALL D-Series were SOHC, too. 
Can you guys please help me out here? For the longest time I have been trying to figure it out, but just can't. Thanks fellas!

yes there is a sohc zc vtec and the code is simply zc. the dohc ones dont have as much aftermarket support but they are still great motors. the sohc zc is just a d16a6 with a little better cam. i would do the dohc zc, theyre basically a d16a6 bottom end, and theres a couple companys that make regrind cams for them. and you can find springs and retainers and all that stuff if you search around. as far as the bottom end you would probably be good using a high compression d16a6 piston cause it would still be lower cmpression than it would make in the a6 because the zc pistons (only dohc) have like a 7.2 dome or some ----. hope i made sense.

well to add to this post, when i had my rex and was going to get a dohc zc, i didn't because the parts list is weird, i like to be able to call up and say i have a 90 crx si 1.6, i need this this and this.... instead of i need a 19xx honda xxxxx head gasket and a 19xx.... you get the point. there was a list i had from someplace i think it was the zc resource, it had compatible parts...
