i think i have that same computer.. HP 660mhz (hella gangster in year 2000 )

for my old one (that one), its weird.. if somethin is wrong with it, you can leave it off for an hour or 2, then turn it on and it works perfectly fine - must be a hewlett packard thing i guess

or your computer is just over heating?? lol.sometimes could be a faulty mother board.

ive had this problem before, but i was a faulty power supply.

my mom did that once - made me waste my lunch break going to the house and finding that her monitor wasn't on..

So ------ aggravating... it happened again. The comp was working for weeks since last time. 2 days ago I "restarted" it (start/restart) and it powered down and never came back on. Pisses me off...
Once again it powers on but doesnt boot up. black screen, no lights on keyboard etc..
Ive opened it up and looked at everythign and it LOOKS ok inside, nothing loose or burnt.

Last few times this happened it just magically came back on. Hopefully that happenes again... Im stuck using this old *** 133Mhz laptop

Ok i heard this problem before but it with my Imac. My ---- use to come on and then it turns off like it was overheating or something. now it doesnt come on at all and it makes this blinking noise. I found out the my imac flyback transformer was bad. (its what connected to the back of the montior to the system that turns on your monitor) its a common prob with those macs.

I know you dont have a mac but it might be a similar prob

could be a power supply. bad motherboard, or manythings.

probobly a powersupply problem.

i would have to agree it is the power supply, i had a compaq that did the same ----. when it does work see if the clock and date are getting messed up, it is one way to tell if the power supply is going bad, or you can just eat the $25 bucks to get a new one and try it.
