Re: Computer geeks help now
if halfway through the install it starts saying file not found, please insert Windows XP SP1 CD then the CD is fux0rd and it's never going to work again.
easiest way, is find a friend w/ XP SP1 and install that, use your cd key.
Then promptly copy that thing! I had this happen to me. A burnt CD fails quicker than a OEM CD. Keep a copy of the entire CD on your hard drive, hell, make a seperate partition so it doesnt get formatted.

This could be a couple of differetn things. try using hte disk again, it could be that there was a spot on the disc, fucked up format or like dude above me said the disc is fucked. Try a re-install and see what it does, if it wants the disc again...bank on your disc being fucked.

Re: Computer geeks help now
download the service pack and use the -x switch to extract the files to your jumpdrive if it's big enough. When the install ask for the files, point it there. If that doesn't work, re-install windows to another folder, like windows2 so you have a working system and then copy the files to the hard drive or download sp2 and slipstream it into a fresh copy of XP and install it from there.

I don't underastand what you mean bye install windows to an other folder, if you mean partition, I can't install it to this partiontion why would I be able to install it to an other one.
thanks for the help so far, it is an original disc and it looks fine, but it still could be bad. rigth now I'm just dl ing a student version Anyone know if there are any downsides to this its pro sp2.
Funny that it seems to be easier to steal windows then install it legitimately

like this
Code:
Start -> Run C:\XPSP2\WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe -x

My suggestion to you. Investigate VMWare. All these problems go away. I can switch between 8 different copies of Windows in about 20 seconds. Linux \ Knoppix \ BSD running VMware booting Windows XP virtual images is the way to go.
