carb or efi? shut my uncle up
dear ricers,
im new to turboing and even auto suping in general. my influence to try it has been my uncle, a 40 something very smart man who is a ***** sometimes. he keeps sayin "in the new "engine masters" challenge, caburation kicked e.f.i.s *** in every possible way". i tryed to shut him up by bringing up fuel economy. he claims that efi is only better on economy when going down hill. If there is any efi strengths you can help me with id greatly appreciate it.

efi gives a more precise measure of fuel, exactly when it is needed. Easier to get bigger power gains with carbs though.
EFI has been used as it is a more efficient system, and it is easier to tune the system for economy etc - which is what most manufacturers tend to do, keeps their figures looking nice and healthy
Doesn't make it "better" - that is too broad a term really, better for what? Depends what you want

my guess
i think because of all the c.a.r.b. and similar type of organizations breathing down there neck for emissions. but i like efi, there is less guess work. but he thinks just cus carbs can dump tons of gas into the engine, there better. the funny thing is iv never said that efi was better (i do think it is) he just knows i have no desire to adjust a jet, rev the engine to find its too lean, go under the hood and add fuel eventually, learn how to tear apart the carb for new jets,etc,etc,etc,... efi is way better for being able to tune an engine almost as easy as bitching on a forum.

and he claims the vaporization is better from a carb due to it being in the air flow where as a fuel injector is onlyspraying fuel with no air included. also he says there is more puddling on cylinder walls in efi?

I second that. So I'm addressing this to "Half-way Hillbilly"... you get the half-way part because you like efi. Anyway... the air going through the runners/ports in a efi setup is just the same as air going through the "barrels" of a carb. The fuel and air has to mixed somewhere and it doesn't magically do so on the inside of a carb where the fuel is hanging out. And with efi you can fine tune how much fuel is being sprayed (instead of poured)
into the engine at certain instances unlike carbs where you just wing it for low mid and high Rs.. And you cant tell me the same amount of fuel is getting to each port with a carb. And if you are wondering about TBI... that ---- is well.. ----. Multi port Sequential Fuel Injection FTW unless you need Garden hose style fueling.. then yeah carbs are perfect.
