Psychology major, Diana Fries, has been accepted into the Forensic Psychology doctoral program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. She graduated this fall and will start this program in January. Diana is from Germany, a President’s Host, and will be graduating a semester ahead of schedule with approximately a 3.9 GPA (and 4.0 in her PSY courses).
Diana has also been a regular and visible participant in functions sponsored by our Program and our Psychology Club, including our monthly Symposium Guest lecture series and volunteering in community service functions such as frequent socials and dances held for the developmentally disabled in Honolulu. She is also serving as an officer in HPU’s German Student Association. From Germany, naturally, she speaks German, and is perfectly fluent in English and is also quite proficient in Spanish, French, and Latin. A regular on the academic Dean’s List for her outstanding grades, Ms. Fries is a member of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society for Psychology and Pi Gamma Mu, the National Honor Society for the Social Sciences. She demonstrates her interest and involvement in her discipline with student affiliate status in the American Psychological Association and the Hawaiian Psychological Association.
Starting in the summer of 2007, Ms. Fries began accumulating very valuable clinical and community experiences. While spending the summer at home in Germany, she interned with a clinician, working with children of all ages, helping to implement the WISC-III and therapeutic treatments with a population of children with math, reading, and writing problems, as well as children with anxiety disorders including phobias. Last fall, she was enrolled in our senior capstone Counseling and Community Practicum, volunteering many hours at the Community Assistance Center here in Honolulu.
Congratulations to you, Diana, on your graduation and for being accepted into this fine graduate program! You will represent our Psychology Program and University well at John Jay.
