i have 2 kids and a fiancee, and they all know that my car is part of the family, my girl doesnt like me working on the car all the time, but she is cool about it.
my oldest daughter (4yo) likes going to races and seems interested in cars. we can drive down the road and she knows the names of a few of the cars we pass. i'm not sure about my younger daughter (1.5 yo) liking cars yet, though she laughs when ever i jump on the gas to pass someone and the exhaust gets loud.
IDK, its a balance, and knwoing the right thing to say when your GF asks you why you love your car more than her

When I wasn't hanging out with her, she tried to learn about turbos and it failed... so she bought me parts like egt gauge, oil pressure, type r spoiler..etc..for christmas and birthday, then the ---- took it all back when we broke up. 
Boost > GF's ....you guys might think the opposite, but my car was always there for me when I needed it and it never complained.

Ya it's good to know your priorities. I respect a guy who know what should come first.
But just to say, my fiance like cars sort of to, leaving a bar when I was still N/A my friends thought I was driving(DEFINITELY NOT IN MY CONDITION) becuase of the ways she shifted and how long she held gears. I thought her well. And she difinitely is taking my car to the track (only on street tires, I think my slicks will be a little much for her) and see if she can break the 13sec barrier. Not all of us can have a g-friend like Beau with 470whp!!!
