Actually mine was #2 that blew.

Oh well, I knew it would go that's why I am not too upset. I only wished I blew it in the winter so I could build it up for the summertime. Instead, it looks like I will be building an engine now.

I am getting a really good deal on an sleeved block, rods, and internals.

I doubt it is lack of ignition, possibly poor control of the ignition is to fault. I have a 6al, BTM, and a Blaster 2 coil.

From what I have heard, it is because it is inbetween two cylinders that are fired one after another and the coolant flow is already hot when it hits it.>>>or something to that effect Its just placement and coolant issues. It is the hottest, hence it is the first to go KABOOM!!!

Just an update:
I pulled the head off the blown ZC and the #2 cylinder had a few more scratches on the walls than the others. It wasn't a huge difference, but it was noticeable so it looks as though I fried the rings or lands. The scratches weren't too bad as the compression only dropped to 100psi instead of the others which were at 180.

I am happy I did not do any damage to the head because it will be used again.

Hey nyc86z,

Can you specify your turbo setup, etc.. pressure and the like.. intercooler? Exhaust... the good stuff.

BTW, my old (182k) a6 is holding strong, but I want to know what pressure to avoid I'm going on a trip to japan shorty, and didn't feel like doing a motor swap before that time came. I'm still tweaking on ghettodyne to cut out all my detonation... I'm running 200 PSI in each cyl., which makes detonation more likely to happen Got to be careful with my old a6

I have a vx manifold, adapter tube, t25 turbo, adjustable wastegate actuator rod, 2 1/2" charge pipes, rather Large homemade FMIC, fuel management is handled by a SDS EIC, greddy type S BOV, 1st gen ZC, 86 teg tranny, 2 1/4" shitass exhaust, no cat, and I think that's about it.

Let me tell you that my setup was running fine until I got greedy at the track and leaned it out too much and turned down the BTM. I was running ~8psi everyday if I wanted to, although I rarely hit it.

Honestly it's not about the pressure as I was driving around on 9psi for a long time, it's just I kept the fuel up and did not turn down the BTM. When I was at the track I had to wear a helmet and I could not hear the detonation. On the street, if I heard the slightest bit of detonation I would cut back on the BTM.

It's all about tuning.
