$3500 new, basically the same mechanicals for almost two decades so you can find clean ones used for cheap. It has outsold all other Kawi offerings a couple model years in it's production history.

-won't need to get your moto license, just get a permit and when it expires renew.
-get something ***** cheap and not sporty, insurance shouldn't rape you. ---- cancel it after you get your cards if you wanna be truely
I drove my sister's for a summer when she moved into a new place and left it at my folks. I personally got bored with it REALLY fast. My friend bought the exact same thing only brand new and he took a big hit at the end of the year just to get rid of it. Unless you just want it to save gas for a commuter get something a little bigger.

Ive been told that the 500 will be too small but I think i like the idea of it not being that fast. Although ive been looking into maybe something like an sv650...who knows

You'll never average 75mpg on a Ninja. You'll get 70mpg only on the highway, tucked, and never touching the gas. Expect around 60mpg, at least thats what I get on my girlfriend's Ninja:
Generally you don't buy a bike to save money. Even though your getting better gas mileage, your riding something that tires only last 6 to 8,000, lots more maintenence costs and insurance payments, ect. You should get a bike becuase you want to ride, not becuase you want to save money. Becuase in the end your probably not going to save anything.
