I am thinking of picking up a tiny ball-less motorcycle for riding to the train station for my commute into nyc. Are there any easy to find cheap pos bikes that will get some sick gas mileage? Driving a turbo bmw back and force 5 miles will eat my anus.

I even considered getting a dirtbike and just hoping to avoid cops ( i take one back road) but theres always POPO around the station so I need a legit "street" bike. Do I need a different license in NY too or can I usually BS my way out of that with cops?

dude, ENDURO FTW!! good for the road and dirt... u can go anywhere with that ------- thing... but my opinion, unless ur buying something for like 1000 bux, you will prolly spend more buying a bike than jus paying for gas

Your best bet is to try to fall under moped laws. Typically the state requires next to nothing to have one(meaning plates are not needed or very cheap, no insurance, no license, and maybe very inexpensive registration costs). The issue with moped/scooters is the fact you typically can't go on roads that have limits over 35mph even though the scooter may do 45mph. Also finding a scooter that is actually legal can be an issue depending on the state.

The next thing you can do is get a Ninja 250r or something like it. 70mpg and goes 90mph. Issue is you have to get the motorcycles license, the insurance, register it, and all that fun stuff. It would probably take you 12-18 months of riding to get your money back via gas savings.

If it's only 5 miles get a bicycle. You'll be in shape doing that too, it's what I'm doing.

i got a chineese CDM sports bike last summer because of gas prices, its a POS get a ninja 250 :-) the CDM bike does get pretty good mpg when its not falling apart on the road.

get an old street legal xr great on gas and probably no the hardest thing to find

You most likely wouldn't NEED to insure a motorcycle but check your state laws.

He's from NY. There is no way he isn't going to need to insure a bike. Not to mention getting a motorcycle license typically requires getting a permit and waiting a number of weeks before being allowed to take your test. If you have no one to teach you how to ride properly, then you have to pay $300 to take classes. Not to mention, not getting extra health coverage via vehicle insurance, especially when riding a motorcycle, is pretty moronic.
