Accounting is a good background. I'm a firm believer in that school is bullshit. Everyone i know says school only got them the job they're in. Their ability to learn more, performance and progress made them the real cash.
My friend just got a job at bloomberg with a ------- history degree. How that's even possible is beyond me.

CDL driver. lots of places paying $1000+ in my area for local drivers. Had a driver in Autozone last Thursday complaining he wasnt making ----. I asked him what he was making and he told me $600 a week. Sounds ok to me, considering Im making 500 every two weeks at ------- shitty Autozone, putting up with rednecks and 350's and know nothing customers that know more than you. Theres no work for mechanics out here so Im stuck at AZ unless I finnaly go to school. I was making 12/hr flat rate out of High school, but ---- got dead round new years and still is. there is NO mechanic around here. The money is in teh entertainment industry. Im trying to go to school for Recording Arts...I make tracks for local artists and I kick *** at that ----. My goal is to produce.

I know a couple guys still hunting jobs. Frederic has been unemployed for almost two years now, but I think he has issues with getting payed less than 100K/year.

As someone else said, schools flooded the market with people. Not all had any talent whatsoever, but a good number of them had work ethic and were/are capable of learning.

I liked Johnny better when he was poor, and could barely afford to boost a rusty 5.0 Mustang. Nowadays he acts like he's too good for the trailerpark.

When I get this job at University of Idaho.. and get my last couple years in as a windows admin. I should be able to pull down a better salary, being a linux/Windows admin. As is right now, I'm not making market value for my skills.. but with me looking to move so soon, there is no point in looking for another job here... ya know?

And it was me, making the comment about the schools flooding the market with shitty cheap labor. They put a sour taste in most company's mouths because they couldn't do the jobs they were getting paid huge amounts of money for. I've seen it happen a couple times in my career.

Most good sysadmins and IT managers I've met had a degree or background in something else entirely. All you have to be is Geek, your degree is a non-issue.
