Damn this is a long thread. I didn't read everything, but I'll throw in my thoughts.
Don't ever ---- your buddies girl. It's not cool. There are plenty of girls out there. Don't ---- up a friendship over a -----. Go find another one.
Even if they are broken up, don't even try it unlesss you want to throw the friendship away. My brother went out with chicks I dated and even though he asked me if it was cool and I said it was, it wasn't. I was pissed and wanted to hurt people. I don't exactly know why, but I was super pissed and I didn't want to admit it. I had to ---- a few of his old girls to get over that ----. ----, I'm still a little pissed about that.
I have had chances to ---- friends girlfriends, but out of respect and wanting to keep a friendship, I didn't do it. It's not worth it.
Stay friends with the girl, but don't do anything you wouldn't want some other guy doing to your girl/EX.
I know it's hard when you're in the situation and things are getting crazy, but damn....you gotta have some control.

Mostly good advice, DOC pointed out some good ----, for some reason I know every rap quote that stealth throws out.
Bros before hoes, there are more fish in the sea, don't fuckup your friendship. In the end if you go with her, it won't last forever.. you will have a little bit of immediate pleasure and have to live with loosing both of them one day.
If your friend tells you "yeah go for it", he doesn't mean it. Just get permission for ******** from her, don't get mixed up in a relationship. Just my .02

i didnt read any of the responses, but i've been in this situation. If she's worth it, i say go for it. Your friend will forgive you if you act right about it, just be sure to let him know whats up. Just tell him that you've been hanging out with her and youre not sure if it will go further but if it does you'll let him know. The biggest thing is that you make sure she isnt doing this just to get back at him or some ----. When this happened with me, thats what i thought and i ditched the girl, only to find out she was for real :P
