many things can trip a 15/20amp breaker easily. just to light this basement with all the lights on it takes 3 15 amp breakers. 2 for florescent light banks and one for some big halogen cans.

I am really ------- lost as to why anyone would want one of these things. It gives you an exact reading on consumption but so does the utility company every month.

Knowing the draw of your fridge or heater is not amazing. You don't really have the option of turning them off.

As for items that get intermittent use, PC, lights, TV etc. Well just turn them off when they are not needed.

Still not seeing the need for this device. How long will it take you to regain the $20 spent through electricity savings??

There are devices that people keep plugged in 24/7 that they think use 1 Watt or less but in fact some use 10+ watts. This devices don't need to run 24/7 but they do for no reason. Just those devices alone will pay for the Kill A Watt. I'll give a simple example. I have a N64 plugged in all the time, I never use it. Thing used 2 watts for no reason. I would have never thought of it without buying this. Even if it only saves me a couple of bucks, it's a couple of bucks worth saving as I don't care if I have to plug in my N64 when I want to play it.

The utility company only tells you how much your whole house uses. I have 2 fridges and a freezer in my house. We got the freezer when we bought the house and we just kept it running. Well, that freezer costs $260 a year to run for no reason really. It's $260 I don't need to spend. You really think people constantly think "Oh man, keeping my router plugged in 24/7 is costing me $.05 a day, I better shut it off when I'm not around?" This gives you the wattage the items use and makes you become aware of inefficiencies in your home.

Personally I mainly bought this item to figure out my power consumption in my room so I could buy a solar system that would power my room but I don't see why anyone couldn't use this item and make their money back in less than a year.

That still doesn't explain the need for this device. It would seem that simply educating yourself with information available for free online would have done the same thing. The device itself is not actually doing anything.

I can see the value of it for getting a baseline for your room alone, but that doesn't make it the best $20 ever. That just means that you bought a "tool" you needed to accomplish a job. Not thread worthy.

the fact of the matter is this. your not a realist. you have to be more frugal than your supposed to be. i bet you your house is so poorly designed that i bet this far out weighs any other power sapper besides your AC or heating.

lemme guess. you don't have 1 foot overhangs, Hydronic heating, or heated floors? i bet you ten dollars your windows ALONE could save you 100 a month on your heating bill.
