auto to manual swap

auto to manual swap
How hard is it to do an automatic to manual swap ina 91 CRX? Do the holes for the automatic shifter and the 5spd line up right and stuff or is there a lot of cutting and redoing the hole? You need to replace the flywheel right? and i'd have to buy a clutch and pressure plate? Thx. -BOB

Re:auto to manual swap
i did my 99 civic and it wasn't hard at all. only took a day and a half to complete. and i did need the tranny mounts and the bolts that hold the tranny to the mounts have to be about an inch longer and don't forget one of the starter bolts is longer. i don't know about your car but mine i had to get a whole new starter because i guess they are differant with auto's and manuals.

the shifter/shift linkage.
you will need all the mounts that bolt directly to the tranny, and the rear mount that bolts to the cross member (it's the rubber portion of the rear mount).
the two bolt holes for the manual shifter are missing, but there are indentations where the holes should be, so you just need to drill them out. you'll also want to make a block-off plate to keep hot air from the exhaust out of the cabin.
the most annoying part is swapping out the pedal clusters - there's no way around dropping the steering column. i guess the rear mount could be a pain if you don't have the right tools to reach the rear bolt. make sure you get all the hardware from the donor car - it will make things easier in the end.
