A real round is the 6.5 Grendel. That ---- is as fast as the 223, but packs almost twice the energy. Low recoil and nice ballistics. No iPOD is gonna stop that round.

Plus, now that Wolf has started making the Grendel round, you can get it for cheap.

Werd.

Speed means nothing. As for having slightly more energy, well let me put it this way, the 7.62 X 39 is your standard NATO .308 and can put holes in 1/4" steel plate @ 300 yards if the grain is right. It also has pinpoint accuracy because of the short wide cartrige design. To me a .223 is good for nothing other than hunting pigeons.

.223 full metal jacket (Military issue surplus ammo)

55 grain has a muzzle velocity of fps 3240, 2854fps @ 100yds. Energy @ muzzle is 1282 ft-lbs but only 995 ft-lbs @ 100 yards and 763 @ 200 yards.

This is your average muzzle velocity of a 9mm hand gun which your modern day kevlar armor will stop it dead in its tracks. This round is worthless and its sad that our army is cheaping out and giving all our soldiers automatic handguns.

.308 full metal jacket (Military issue surplus ammo)

147 grain has a muzzle velocity of fps 2800, 2582fps @ 100yds. Energy @ muzzle is 2559 ft-lbs and 2177 ft-lbs @ 100 yards, 1840 @ 200 Yards and 1545 @ 300 yards.

So even though its much slower than the ----- .223, it packs WAY more punch as you can see. Saying a .308 has only slightly more energy than a .223 is like saying an HMT honda has slightly more power than an H-T N/A Honda.

If you want a real round, use the barrett .416 if you want to go hunt pigeons use the .223 and if you want a bullet that delivers a good punch, use a .308.

My guess is the soldier is very lucky, the rock solid hard drive disk helped stop the bullet but I think can thank the body armor for doing most of the work.

i love .308 fmj's, spent $15 of that surplus ammo one day shooting up a '71 jimmy, found a nice split in the front axle housing from one that hit it

eqvilant of internet bench racer

7.62x39mm is NOT a .308

.308 is 7.62x51mm commie

the bullet my be close to the same size and the round ness of the bullet the same but the casing is VERY different.

a 30-06 is 7.62x59mm for comparison. .308 is 7.62x51mm, and the commie thing is 7.62x39mm

thats also why a 9mm is a great killing shot to the head, gets through one side of the skull and bounces around inside cuz it doesnt have the power to get through the other side

i still say ---- a 9mm though

The 7.62x39 round is not accurate by any means. It is slow, which makes is more prone to wind, and it drops like no other round. At 300 yrds that bullet is gonna drop 3ft. Also, WTF does cartridge design have to do with ballistics?

Are you smoking crack son? The average handgun round (9mm, 40 S&W, 45, 10mm, 357 SIG) have muzzle velocities at just over a 1000ft/sec.

Seriously, GTFO of here.

First, your average 7.62x39 round has around a 2400 ft/sec muzzle velocity. Maybe some handloaded rounds here in the US where the shooter has done his homework, are you gonna get higher velocities.

Second, who the ---- is gonna use a .416 (or any round that ------ big) for a semi-auto, 3-round burst, full auto carbine. Ammo is gonna weigh a ton, so you can't carry as much, also the mags will be serverly limited on the amount of rounds you can stuff in there. Not even close to being an acceptable military round.

Eh, any handgun round to the head is probably gone a be a killer unless it grazes off. Most rounds will do that being defensive rounds, ie JHP, etc.

9mm is a good round, it's been around a while, and is a good average round and is usually the cheapest round. For a self defense round, I would have to go with the .40 S&W though. Basically a more powerful 9mm round.

9mm is cheap to shoot and you can fit an assload in a magazine. It won't take a fatal shot to do the job. Not very many ninjas can take a couple 9mm rounds and still pose a threat.

I'm thinking about downsizing to a smaller daily carry weapon. I'm not a huge guy so even a "compact" Glock is a bit much to carry, especially in the summer when you want to wear as little clothes as possible. Chances are, when/if you ever have to use your gun for protection it will only take one shot to do the job, no matter what size the bullet.

My buddy has a gun that fits inside a wallet looking thing and he can actually fire it while inside this case and it fits easily in any pocket.
