Flash is the point where the paint is starting to dry, it's still tacky, but you can spray another coat on top.

Black car after 1 coat, you can see it doesn't cover anything at this stage, just kinda lays down a base

Black car, this was I think 3 coats, you can see on the fender, where the spot putty is still kinda peeking out through the paint..

Last coat, I didn't wetsand after the final coat, and i didn't need to.. it was really smooth cause I took alot of time to do it proper, I just waxed it, it didnt stay shiny kinda had a semi matte finish but i'm sure if i had of followed through, put more paint down and compounded the car it would have been perfect.

On to whitey...

First spray and wetsanding, the flares were put on after so they aren't painted yet.

2nd and final coat:

As you can see there is some peel in the paint in the darker pic, and i havent final wetsanded it yet.. but it was so much faster, and I value time especially on a car that will probably hit more pylons than some sort of pylon hitting machine.

More pics if you feel like browsing to see in the car and n2coupe directory..:

damn is all i got to say. doesnt it take a lot of time to strip every damn part of the car. just the fact that i know i have to put it all back on is what stops me from doing something like that. because taking it apart and bad its the time it takes to put it back on that i dont like.

There are two cases where you go through all that stuff, sales. The first is when you enjoy that sort of work, it's slow and methodical and sort of like meditation. The second is when you feel obligated to what the car is, or should be, to do a good job. It's definitely not for everyone.

I'm still sticking to my paint jobber down the street. Downside to that stuff is it's only a single stage paint with no hardner, and if you ever get any chemical cleaners on it (i.e. brake clean) it will spot it and make it sag or wipe off. Going to paint my car again in a week or so, this time going with white...got quoted $115 for 3 quarts of white base with the reducer and flex agent and 3 quarts of clear with the hardner. Definately alot more than a gallon can of rustoleum, but at least I know I can get this to shine like glass and take a beating.

Here's what I picked up and hopefully will be doing in a month or two -

I got a quart of Rustoleum paint and some mineral spirits. I have my CRX, which I'm going to be doing a bit of rust repair on.

Once I repair the rust, I'm going to spot prime, then sand the entire car. Go over it with tack cloth/mineral spirits and a rag. Mix my Paint half/half with mineral spirits and stir really really really well. Pour into HVLP gun, spray first coat. After that coat is on, do a light wet sanding with grit wet. After that's all cleaned up, do another coat. Repeat as necessary? What grit should I do in between, and what should I do after?

I would do my first wet sanding in between coats lightly with a 400-500ish grit. For the last sand before buffing I would use a 800-1000 Grit. It all depends on how much ---- you got in the paint really, if it's ultra smooth go as fine as you can.

Thats for spraying it on, if you roll it on, and sanded with 400 in between you would probably rub it all off.
