J/K it's the risk we all take when buying stuff on the internet. Sometimes you loose, I fortunately have not been ripped off yet buying stuff, ebay, stores, or anything on the web.
I don't live in the UK, but if the guy stopped answering e-mails or such, considered it lost, try and go thru some law agencies and see what they can do for you.
